Camp DaKaNi, meaning “a day in the out-of-doors,” was established in 1956. It is ownedand operated by Camp Fire USA Heart of Oklahoma Council. Located on 33 woodedacres, Camp DaKaNi offers a day campingprogram right in the heartof Oklahoma City. Summerprograms and activities atCamp DaKaNi are designedto encourage your child’shealthy development byallowing them to exploreand enjoy new experiencesin the outdoors. Campersgrow in self-confidence asthe week progresses. Withtheir counselor and coun-selor aide, they create theirown “home-in-the-woods,” develop relation-ships within their camp group, eat a mealoutdoors and master new skills such as arch-ery, canoeing, fishing, etc. The well-beingand safety of campers is our first concern,and the staff and volunteers strive to providea life-changing experience for all children.Camp DaKaNi is open to all BOYS and GIRLS(K – 6
th
grades) and teen and adult volunteersregardless of race, gender, creed, religion,national origin, disabilities* or economicstatus. Membership is not required for camp-ers to enjoy the summer programs at CampDaKaNi.We believe in:

 Teen Counselors
are 15to 18 years of age.Pre-camp training is re-quired and counselorsmust register with CampFire USA. Teen counsel-ors are entitled to one All of the Camp DaKaNiCounselors are volun-teers. Counselors andcounselor aides aretrained in outdoor/campskills and program ac-tivities.

Health and Safety
Camp DaKaNi is licensed annually by the Oklahoma City-County Health De-partment and the Oklahoma City Fire Marshal. Every effort is made to ensureyour child’s safety while at camp. The Directors are trained annually in First Aid and CPR. A dress code and behavior/discipline policy is in place for DaKaNi and can befound in the Parent Confirmation letter

The Camp DaKaNi Director is Jannie Matlock (Miss Understood). The Assistant Di-rector is Christie Akridge (Miss Morning Glory) and the Program Director is LydiaWells (Miss Disney). Terry Stilwell is the Camp Ranger and lives on site.

Buddy Policy
Campers are placed ingroups of the samegrade level. If a buddyis desired, they shouldbe in the same gradeor the older camper will be placed in theyounger age group.This could limit theolder camper’s activi-ties. The camp staff does

as-sign buddies. A buddy ischosen by acamper (suchas a friend orneighbor)prior to camp and writ-ten on the registrationform.

Campers bring a sack lunch onMonday and Wednesday andhave the opportunity to cook outat least once during the week.On Monday, (first day of the ses-sion) your child’s counselor willsend home a food assignmentsheet for the week. Camp feesDO NOT include the price forthese items.

Friday Council Fire Ceremony
 At 10:30 a.m. on Friday mornings, parents are invited to visit camp for Council Fire, our closing ceremony. After the ceremony, parents may tour their camper’s “home-in-the-woods”. Hot dog lunches are available forpurchase at the Concession Stand for $3.00 each or families may bring a sack lunch. After lunch, campersremain at camp to complete their day of activities.
 Your Child’s Group
Campers are placed in groups of 6 - 12 (depending on age of campers, in compliance with OCCHD regulations)and are led by a
 volunteer
counselor. Each camper group’s experience is as diverse as the campers themselves.Counselors are from the age of 15 to adult. Each group will also have a counselor aide (7
th
grade & up) to assist withthe daily activities. Teen counselors and counselor aides are strengthening leadership skills during their week(s) atCamp DaKaNi as part of the Camp Fire USA program. All staff must attend training prior to the start of camp.
