CRIMSON ATLAS: A New Vision of Zombie Apocalypse (Screenplay by Ryan Bartek)

Just in time for Halloween, Ryan Bartek has unleashed “CRIMSON ATLAS” – a total relaunch/rewrite of his debut horror screenplay formerly promoted as “Crimson Highway.” Presenting a new vision of zombie vampire apocalypse, these 120 pages of terror deliver a gore-soaked frenzy for the ages.

CRIMSON ATLAS is Bartek's first serious offering to the horror fiction community. Known mainly for his counterculture road books and prior bands, CRIMSON ATLAS represents the birth of a fresh direction and the beginning of a new era for him as a writer.

This low-budget beast of epic carnage and splatter is seeking a quality production company to help develop this as a feature film. The author is also prepared to shoot this movie guerrilla DIY style if need be. He seeks to establish a support base to make it happen – any interested actors, cameramen, or horror enthusiasts are encouraged to contact him.

About CRIMSON ATLAS: “Three months into a worldwide vampiric zombie apocalypse, a terrain of unspeakable dangers rages from coast to coast. Mindless, feral, and viciously fast, these zombified vampire mutations are unpredictable beasts of pure instinct. Brian, a 20-something everyman, has been driven to nervous collapse. Realizing his chances of survival are scant, he embarks upon a cross country trip to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming beach bum in sunny California.

Armed to the teeth and blazing a chopper, the only thing standing between Brian and his dream are millions of vampire/zombie hybrids – as well as post-apocalypse biker gangs, redneck cannibals, AWOL soldiers, and warring factions of survivors in a sprawling labyrinth of endless carnage.”

FADE IN:EST. INNER CITY DETROIT NEIGHBORHOOD - DAWNThe sun is an orb of crimson, illuminating a war zone ofcharred wreckage, burned buildings and ghastly carnage. Likea graveyard, the atmosphere is dead silent.NARRATOR (V.O.)It had gotten so bad I couldn'tremember my name.Boarded homes emanate freakish hisses and moans O.S. NARRATOR (V.O.)At some point, time just froze.A rat scatters to a decomposing body it feasts upon.NARRATOR (V.O.)Life as a rat, just scurrying placeto place. Avoiding everyone, everything. Just hunkering down, knowing it would be over any day. Then letting my mind do the rest. Maggots eat away at the flesh of its rotting face.NARRATOR (V.O.)All I wanted was to see California. INT. ATTIC - DAWNBRIAN, an average white male in his mid-20's, is passed outon the floor. He is filthy and bearded. SUPER: "DAY 87". His eye flickers with growing awareness then opens withterror - he thrusts upwards and staggers about disoriented.Collapsing from stress, his expression is madness. He speeds to a boarded window and observes the street below. EXT. INNER CITY DETROIT NEIGHBORHOOD - DAWNWrecked cars, smashed homes, charred death.INT. ATTIC - DAWNBrian steps back to the attic center and closes his eyes. Heinhales and exhales, then reopens them with a cold glare. He turns to the wall - a calendar flipped to JUNE. The sunnypicture is of Ocean Beach San Diego, with blue waves and

2.sunny skies. He stares at it as if hypnotized.Closer and closer on the sunny snapshot while O.S. wavesCRASH onto the shoreline amidst laughter of a summer beach. His expression abandons fear for absolute calm as theinterior of the attic is revealed - every surface is coveredwith hand painted black crucifixes. INT. BATHROOM - DAWNThe ceiling hatch opens and Brian cautiously climbs down. BRIAN (V.O.)The truth was I didn't understandwhat had happened. One night, itjust began. Then from attic tobasement, I just hid. Not only fromthem, but all people. He stops in his tracks and eyes a locked door nervously. BRIAN (V.O.)Other people could handle everyonethey knew being eaten alive bymonsters. They fought back, theymade a stand. Yet with me,something broke. And I went away. Brian grabs a heavy crowbar laying against the wall.BRIAN (V.O.)All I knew is that they were outthere, and humanity was tearingitself apart. All out war by night, and an even worse chaos by day.He curls his fingers around it.BRIAN (V.O.)All I knew was the violence keptgrowing dimmer as the days passed. At some point, the fires died. Thegunshots slowed. He turns to a mirror on the wall and gazes at himself, acaricature of an alcoholic homeless man at rock bottom.
