HOW TO PRESENT A NOVEL

1) The plot (→ l'intrigue)

Sum up the story. Leave out details. Express yourself as clearly as
possible.
2) The characters
Present them, first the main characters, then, the secondary
characters.
Choose one or two that you will portray briefly. What role do they
play in the novel? Why did you choose them?
3) A passage you liked
Pick a passage of the novel that you particularly liked or that has
central importance in the story. Describe the action, what the
characters say and do in the passage and say what you liked about it
(or what makes it important).
4) You and the novel (as a conclusion)
Give your opinion on the novel in general. Say what you liked about
it and what you liked less, if you found it easy or difficult to read
and why, if you identified with one or more characters, if you
recommend this book…

You need to justify all you say by referring to passages of

the novel.

Write out the answers to these questions to hand in to the

teacher.

Prepare your review in note form to present it to the class

(you should not read your presentation but speak from your
notes to make it more natural).
