Grafton MeadowsOctober 1, 2009LIT2020-Sec.20 11:00AMDocta CraySanta Claus is a Black ManWho said under the Clause of Santa’s business contract that being white was a credential? As they never mention that Santa Claus is actually white and further talk about his face, mask, and cotton around his face, it creates a window of opportunity that Santa Claus has the sameodds of being black, than white.“The erstwhile Santa Claus began to readjust his mask.” (186) was mentioned andcontinues to further the hypothesis of this actual racial attitude and rate of forgiveness that SantaClaus had for Randolph when saving him from disaster. “Santa Claus is a White Man” as the titleitself may suggest that the Santa Claus who saved Randolph may not have been whiteconsidering the ambiguity with the mask. If Santa Claus was in reality white, it creates confusionwhen Santa Claus gave the money to the white kid, when why wouldn’t Santa Claus keep themoney in order to serve his starving family, considering his family is white, and the actual proprietor of the .25 is the young distressed black boy. When Santa Claus had given the red-head punk the money in attempts of negotiation for Randolph to leave, this may prove that SantaClaus was just saving this young boy in efforts to relieve him from being beaten up from all of white boys in the gang that approached him. Both of these circumstances change the morality of the story. The fact of the deal is thatSanta Claus at the end of the day gave the money to the red-head in savior of the black boy, ultimately proving the suggestive moral irony in the name of the story.
