Burns canbe highly variablein terms of thetissue affected, theseverity, andresultantcomplications.Muscle, bone,blood vessel, andepidermal tissuecan all bedamaged withsubsequent paindue to profoundinjury to nerves.Depending on thelocation affectedand the degree of severity, a burnvictim mayexperience a widenumber of potentially fatalcomplicationsincluding shock,infection,electrolyteimbalance andrespiratorydistress. BeyondphysicalAfter 8 hours of nursinginterventions thepatient willincorporatechanges into self-concept withoutnegating self-esteem.Independent
Acknowledge andacceptexpression of feeling of frustration,dependency,anger, grief, andhostility.
Be realistic andpositive duringtreatments, inhealth teaching,and in settinggoals withinlimitations.
Encouragepatient to viewwounds andassist with careas appropriate.
Provide hopewithin parametersof individualsituation; do notgive falsereassurance.
Acceptance of these feelings asa normalresponse to whathas occurredfacilitatesresolution. It isnot helpful or possible to pushpatient beforeready to deal withthe situation.
