MANTRA REIKI

(PRANA REIKI)

Introduction The Sanskrit word mantra- consists of the root- man- "to think" (also manas "mind") and the tra- meaning, tool, hence a literal translation would be "instrument of thought". Mantras are interpreted to be effective as sound (vibration), to the effect that great emphasis is put on correct pronunciation). They are intended to deliver the mind from illusion and material inclinations. Chanting is the process of repeating a mantra (JAPA). A mantra is a thought manifest in, or encapsulated by, a sacred utterance that possesses profound spiritual significance. They are powerful vibrations., A Mantra is sacred and spiritually beneficial. By chanting a mantra repeatedly with love and devotion a person can become spiritually illumined. He develops a pure mind, which enables him to see God. Life is a mixture of known, unknown and mystical. Known is very limited and the unknown is very vast. We must learn to appreciate the known, work on the unknown and connect to the areas of Mystery. This will give a sense of wonderment and sense of awe. In this dimension of mystery comes the Mantras. They create powerful positive vibrations. This can be experienced when we visit a sacred place. We feel a sense of calmness and get drowned into that vibration. Mantras help to unlock mysteries which logic cannot explain. It is like a child cannot understand how from a seed the tree grows and wonders so also the mystery ie the invisible cannot be understood by an ordinary mind filled with negativities. This is the sensuous mind. Once we drop the sensuous mind and operate from the sacred mind we start experiencing Godliness. We wear shoes to the feet and when we go to a temple or a sacred place we remove the

shoes before entering. We touch the earth with our physical feet. We touch our life with psychological foot. The mind also has certain shoes. They are kama (desires), krodha (anger),lobha(greed),moha(lust),mada,(arrogance),matsalya. (jeleasy) . in order to operate from the sacred mind one has to remove all these shoes as they pollute the mind. This is where Mantras come to our aid. Chanting mantra promotes harmony and healing on all levels. Mantra can awaken our spiritual self, connecting us to the source of all power, not only for personal benefit but also for the good of all others. All mantras have six aspects, a seer or rishi (Mantras have always come down from master to disciple, beginning with the ancient seers, or rishis), a raga (tone, music), a presiding deity (Devata, a definitive form) seed- its source of potency sound (Bija ), the power held within the mantra (Shakti) and pillar- the will power that an aspirant must gain (Kilaka). It is believed that through mantra chanting, one attains concentration and focus on the chosen deity or the main idea of the mantra. One can attain peace of mind quickly by chanting mantra. With constant practice, the inherent power of the Mantra (Mantra-Shakti) will be awakened, which will fill the very existence with the Divinity of the Mantra. Mantras help to heal us-(body),help us to understand-(mind) and help to transform and transcend, so they are magical. Feel the Mantra, feel the music of the Mantra, feel the silence generated. Then transformation happens. Extend the gaps deeply merging in the silence and be sensitive to the silence. Then Mantra leads you to merge in the silence. The vibrations produced by right chanting of the mantras is not directed only to our external environment. It engulfs the entire universe. Thus logically it works both without and

within ourselves constantly transforming us, raising us from one plane to the next higher. Mann means the mind, tra means deliverance Therefore, a spiritual mantra is the pure sound vibration for delivering the mind from material to spiritual consciousness. This is the goal of any spiritual path. The energy in the sound vibration of the mantra prepares and opens one's consciousness to higher levels of reality. There are varieties of Mantras 1 A word power given by a Guru for Meditation to Illumine. 2 A prayer to a Deity to fulfill specific desires 3 Mantras used for protection and Healing. Gayatri Mantra and the Mahamrutyunjaya Mantras are Maha Mantras Three mantras are beneficial for all aspects of life: the Mahamrutyunjaya mantra for health and well being, the Gayatri mantra for mental tranquility and wisdom, and the pranava mantra, Om, for peace and spiritual awakening. The simple yet powerful Mantra, Om or Aum harmonizes the physical forces with the emotional forces and the intellectual forces. When this happens, you begin to feel like a complete being mentally and physically. Essentially, before existence and beyond existence is only One reality, Brahman, and the first manifestation of Brahman in existence is Aum. Aum is considered to be the most fundamental and powerful mantra, and thus is prefixed and suffixed to all Hindu prayers.

The Maha Mrutyunjaya Mantra is considered to be the "companion" chant to the Gayatri mantra. Whereas the Gayatri mantra opens the energy field and empowers the chanter through feminine energies, the Maha Mrutyunjaya mantra moves energies through masculine energies, instigating new, positive conditions. Maha Mrutyunjaya mantra is considered to be a healing mantra that awakens dormant abilities within the one chanting. Where Gayatri cleanses the system, Maha Mrutyunjaya strengthens it. Maha Mrutyunjaya works with masculine energies so that action on the physical plane may occur. For these reasons, Gayatri and Maha Mrutyunjaya are often used in conjunction with one another to open the energy field, clear unfavorable conditions, and bring about powerful change, and balancing of the energies.

But one can also chant it anytime in a pure environment with great benefit and discover the happiness that's already within. When you chant the Name, it actually moves through your whole being - purifying you, bestowing grace, and making you sacred'' As chanting bathes us in its purifying sounds, it opens our hearts; it opens us to receive the outpouring of grace from the Divine. . As we chant, we're making an offering to the world. Meditation upon a mantra directs the mind into a single focus--one thought. Drawing awareness inward is the gift of the mantra. It is here that the mind can experience the
7

mystical nature of the mantra; the sound resonant with the presence of the self and the mantra can calm our monkey mind, and also protects us. This meditation can be done alone or in a group for selfhealing and to heal others and the world. This mantra can purify the aura and consolidate your mental projection into a one-pointed awareness. Listening to it helps rebalance the entire auric field and gives you a sense of security that activates your self-healing capacities. Which connects you with the pure healing energy of the universe. This mantra cuts across time and space for healing yourself and others. It creates a peaceful and productive environment. Those who chant this mantra will age with grace. Families can benefit from its harmonizing effects on the home, children and even pets. How to use it in Healing (SAME FOR BOTH THE MANTRAS) Sit erect Center and Ground yourself. Close your eyes and focus on the third-eye point. Pray to Lord Shiva and all higher beings. Then offer prayers to Gurus-starting with Usui who brought you to this field of energy healing (always remember an attitude of gratitude) and all the gurus and great ones, angels and archangels etc. Imagine a glowing golden light around yourself as you meditate, or to heal someone else, imagine that same light around them Inhale deeply before you begin chanting. To BeginSet your intentions and ask for healing for yourself, others you wish to include. Then release these prayers to the
8

universe. During the meditation concentrate only on doing the meditation, the mantra and the effects you are experiencing. The more you are present to your experience, the more effective you are in creating a sacred healing space. You will use the space that you have created at the end to share healing energy. Inhale deeply, feel a golden light in your heart, expanding and filling up each cell of your body. Feel the healing love in your heart. Invite in friends, members of your family and situations and allow them to be bathed in the healing vibration. Hold them in your heart and in the healing vibration that you now resonate with and continue the chants till you feel no more of healing happening. Inhale deeply. Feel that your heart is so big and the love so infinite that you can hold the whole earth in your heart. Let the earth pulse with the mantra and be healed with this love. Inhale deeply, hold your breath and see the person very clearly, see the golden healing light bathing the person, bathing every cell in the body. Be very attentive. You may feel that the person is also healing you. Exhale and relax and slowly bring your hands to Namaste position. Give a thanks-giving prayer . Send the energy to Mother Earth with the intention that let mother earth be rejuvenated, revitalized and regenerated. Open the eyes with a smile. Do some stretching after this to release used up energy. A Variation on Healing Another thing to do is to feel / see the person or situation in Santhosha Symbol (Star Of David) enveloped in a golden light and chant the Mantra 3 times for each chakra.

Chanting creates energy to fill every cell of the body. Then merge with the light. Feel the light expanding to radiate through the room, the vicinity, the area, and country and then the whole earth. See/feel the earth healed. See/feel the hearts of every person penetrated with love and peace. Merge everything into Universal Light. Simply by smiling and greeting others, you share this love and light with the world. When a person goes within himself and consciously experiences his own beauty, he touches his divinity. Then he can reunite his destiny to his highest potential. Chanting or listening to this mantra will drive out depression and revibrate your life. It burns the seed of disease. Use it everyday. Offer it to anyone. If you work with it, it will work for you. In moments of anxiety, despair, fear or worry, let it be your safeguard. It will give you a strong sense of your own centeredness. This mantra is a pure divine thought. When you think pure thoughts and are mentally strong, you cannot suffer the painful effects of bad karma or disease. Disease and illness can be managed effectively with this mantra. (Now there are many remedial effects we receive by chanting this mantra. Those who are suffering from chronic diseases may chant the Mrutyunjaya mantra 1,25,000 times within 48 days. It ensures long life, peace of mind and removes the fear of death. ) WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS MAHAMANTRA It is important to understand the meaning of the words as this makes the repetition meaningful and brings forth the results.
10

OM has to be added to the beginning of all Mantras. Om stands for silence i.e. the Turya Avasta the fourth state of consciousness. TRYAMBAKKAM refers to the three eyes of Lord Shiva. 'Trya' means 'Three' and Ambakam' means eyes. These three eyes or sources of enlightenment are the Trimurti or three primary deities, namely Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva and the three 'AMBA' (also meaning Mother or Shakti' are Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati Thus in this word, we are referring to God as Omniscient (Brahma), Omnipresent (Vishnu) and Omnipotent (Shiva). YAJAMAHE: means, "We sing Thy praise"/we worship. SUGANDHIM: refers to His fragrance (of knowledge, presence and strength i.e. three aspects) as being the best and always spreading around. Fragrance refers to the joy that we get on knowing, seeing or feeling His virtuous deeds. From Ahamkara(Egoistic-I) to Asmita(Innocent-I) PUSHTIVARDHANAM : Pushti-strength/nourishment refers to Him as the sustainer of this world and in this manner; He is the Father of all. it is also the inner truth of all knowledge(from silence the real intelligence opens up) and is thus Savitur or the Sun and also symbolises Brahma the Omniscient Creator. In this manner He is also the Father of all. URVAAROKAMEVA: 'URVA' means "VISHAL" or big and powerful. 'AAROOKAM' means 'Disease'. Thus URVAROOKA means deadly and overpowering diseases. The diseases are also of three kinds caused by the influence (in the negative) of the three Guna's and are ignorance, falsehood and weaknesses

11

BANDANAAM : means bound down. Thus read with URVAROOKAMEVA BANDANAAD , it means 'I am bound down by deadly and overpowering diseases'. MRITYORMOOKSHEYA: means to deliver us from death (both premature deaths in this Physical world and from the never-ending cycle of deaths due to re-birth) for the sake of Moksha (Nirvana or final emancipation from re-birth). MAAMRITAAT means 'please give me some Amritam (life rejuvenating nectar). Read with Urvaarokameva Bandanaat Mrityomooksheya Maamritaat, it means that we are praying for some 'Amrit' to get out of the death inflicting diseases as well as the cycle of re-birth. Enlightenment happens only when we dis-identify and disidentification happens when we understand that nothing is ours everything is Thine. So when we have deep trust we never identify with happiness or unhappiness, success or failure and this is the fact of immortality. Constant repetition of this ancient Sanskrit mantra purifies the heart and awakens our perception (third eye) so that we start to understand on a deeper level. Simultaneously reflection on its meaning also helps to awaken our intuitive faculties. Anybody can recite this mantra and attain good health, release from bondage and other problems. This is the greatest reliever from all evils and can be recited at any time like any other Maha-Mantra

The essence of the Mantra can be stated as follows 'Oh God! Thou art the Giver of Life, Remover of pain and sorrow, The Bestower of happiness, Oh! Prachodayath:Inspire or Enlighten. Let all our intellect be indeed Enlightened. When this wakefulness happens life becomes Divine. We experience a silence and look at the world in this silence.

The deity Gayatri is said to be 'Panchamukhi' (having five faces). The five Faces of Gayatri are: 1. "Om", the Pranava is the 1st Face. The Pranava Principle represents the eight different forms of wealth (Ashta Aiswarya). 2. "Bhur Bhuva Suvaha" is the 2nd Face. 3. "Tat Savitur Varenyam" is the 3rd Face. 4. "Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi" is the 4th Face. 5. "Dhi Yo YoNah Prachodayat" is the 5th Face. All these five aspects of the Gayatri Mantra are within each one of us. These five faces are actually the five senses guarded by her or alternatively, five 'pranas' of life forces protected by her as Savitri. It is said that Gayatri Mantra acts as a third eye of a person that opens up a whole new world of spiritual realization and attaining Brahman. It is said to have power to protect one from any possible harm. It confers material gain, happiness, prosperity, removes greed, delusion, pain and diseases. It bestows good health, beauty, strength, vigor and magnetic Aura. (OM) In silence (Dheemahi) We meditate (Bhargo) upon the Spiritual Effulgence (Varenyam Devasya) of THAT Adorable Supreme Divine Reality (Savitur) the Source the inner Sun (Bhur, Bhuva, Suvaha) of the Physical, the Astral and the
19

Heavenly Spheres of Existence. (TAT) May THAT Supreme Divine Being (Prachodayat) enlighten (Yo). Which (Nah) our (Dhi Yo) intellect (so that we may realize the Supreme Truth).

The Gayatri Mantra is the reliever of diseases (Sarva roga nivaarini Gayatri,) The Gayatri Mantra wards off all misery (Sarva duhkha nivaarini Gayatri, ) The Gayatri Mantra is the fulfiller of all desires (Sarva karyasiddhi karani Gayatri) Gayatri is Annapurna, the Divine Mother, and the Divine Force that animates all Life. The benefit we derive from the Gayatri Mantra is the cleansing of the mind - Chitta suddhi. Gayatri meditation destroys all delusions, energizes prana, and bestows longevity, health, brilliance and illumination. The Gayatri Mantra is the key to opening the door of Cosmic Consciousness. Whoever meditates on the Gayatri Mantra every morning and evening will certainly be blessed with long life, good health and peace. His word becomes a blessing. He will attain enlightenment and will become a great blessing to the society and the entire world. Thus, through the Gayatri Mantra We meditate on the glory of the Creator; Who has created the Universe; Who is worthy of Worship; Who is the embodiment of Knowledge and Light; Who is the remover of all Sin and Ignorance;
20

May He enlighten our Intellect. Healing will be as the Mrutyunjaya Mantra and follow the same method. Gayatri brings healing to any sickness, be they physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. This mantra cuts across time and space for healing yourself and others. Families can benefit from its harmonizing effects on the home, children and even pets

Santosha symbol

In the Hindu religion, the hexagram is called the Shatkona (six Pointed Star),and also known as Santosha(CONTENTMENT). The Shatkona is the combination of the Shiva kona (kona is triangle) pointing upward, the symbol of the God Shiva, representing the element of fire, and the Shakti kona, pointing downward representing the element of water. Together, they

24

represent the union of male and female energy, and the heart chakra. Now visualize the self in this symbol and feel/visualize being filled with Golden Light completely enveloping the whole being. Share the energy with the whole earth and send to all whom you want to send. Send to all groups. You are now initiated into the Mantra Reiki (Prana Reiki)

I have been using it along with the reiki symbols with excellent results for over 3years. In our clinic we treat more than 60 patients daily and play the music of these Mantras and do the healing. The patients are also taught the Mantras for better effect. The results are amazing. As one progresses in this field of energy one can innovate new insights as the creative energy becomes more and more stronger.
25

CONCLUSION In everybodys life there comes a time when one feels, everything going wrong and one is overwhelmed with frustration. When things appear to be going wrong, the natural tendency for a human being is to ascribe the blame to someone other than himself. And what better excuse can we find other than God whom we have learnt to believe as the ultimate controller of everything- the supreme reality. But one whose intellect is firmly established and steady- sits down to analyze. God has given us Viveka, Buddhi (Wisdom). Use it wisely to be successful in life. By that discerning power, backed up by reasoning, one can choose the right path. A spiritual approach to life demands an unconditional trust on a superior power. Regular chanting of these two Mantras help us to achieve this state of mind. So le us understand the value of this and make our life better and live a life of Success with satisfaction.
