1 Adam & Eve chapter 49:8
"And this sign (Adam buried beneath a rock), O Adam, will happen to me at My coming upon
earth: Satan will raise the people of the Jews to put me to death; and they will lay me in a rock,
and seal a large stone upon Me, and I shall remain with that rock three days and three nights.
9 But on the third day I shall rise again, and it shall be salvation to thee, O Adam, and to thy seed,
to believe in Me..."
there three days;Jos_2:16. And it is said of the third day of the promulgation
of the law, And it came to pass on the third day;Exo_19:16. It is written
also of the third day of Jonas, Jonas was in the belly of the fish three days
and three nights,Jon_1:17. It is written also of the third day of those that
came up out of the captivity. And there abode we in tents three days;
After two days will he revive us, and the third day he will raise us up. It is
written also of the third day of Esther, And on the third day Esther put on her
royal apparel,Est_5:1. The Targumist adds,On the third day of the
namely, the third day of the Passover. If these things were taken so much
notice of concerning the third day; at that time, in the schools and
synagogues, (as I see no reason why it should be denied), then these words
of Cleopas may seem to look a little that way, as speaking according to the
vulgar conceptions of the Jews. For whereas it had been plain enough to
have said, today is the third day; but he further adds, beside all this; and
the wordthi s; too; there seems a peculiar force in that addition, and an
emphasis in that word. As if the meaning of it were this: "That same Jesus
was mighty in word and deed, and shewed himself such a one, that we
conceived him the true Messiah, and him that was to redeem Israel: and
besides all these things which bear witness for him to be such, this very day
bears witness also. For whereas there is so great an observation amongst us
concerning the third day; this is the third day since he was crucified; and
there are some women amongst us, that say they have been told by angels
that he is risen again."
27. And Abram walked in the midst of the fire three days and three nights,
and all the servants of the king saw him walking in the fire, and they came
and told the king, saying, Behold we have seen Abram walking about in the
midst of the fire, and even the lower garments which are upon him are not
burned, but the cord with which he was bound is burned.
unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with
us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may
sacrifice to the LORD our God.
Parashat Lekh Lekha taught us the following important lesson. The lives of the Fathers are prophetic shadows of future events in the lives of their descendants. We saw that Avraham's descent into Egypt was a clear picture of the future 1) descent, 2) enslavement and 3) deliverance of his descendants from Egypt. However, we have also noted that the ultimate descendant of the Fathers is Messiah Yeshua. If we have seen such a strong thematic parallel between Avraham's descent into Egypt and a future event in the lives of his descendants, do you think we may see any examples of actions of the Patriarchs that are clearly thematically connected to the person and work of Messiah Yeshua? You betcha! Watch this.
A. Read Bereishit 22, the account of the Akeida. Note how Adonai described the relationship between Avraham and His son, “…take your son, your only one, whom you love” (Genesis 22:2 and 16). Can you think of a passage in the B’rit Chadasha that refers to Yeshua in the same manner—as an only son, beloved of the Father?[Vayeira39] [47]
the Father, He has declared Him.
* John 3:18— because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
* Hebrews 11:17— By faith Avraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had
There are also other passages. Notice that every reference pertains to the relationship between
our heavenly Father and His Son, Yeshua. Do you see the picture the Torah is describing for us in
the Akeida? It looks like this. Just as Avraham was willing to offer up His only son whom he
loved as a whole burnt offering, so likewise, our heavenly Father was willing to offer up His only
begotten son as an olah! As you can see, the Akeida is a perfect picture of the work of redemption.
In this picture, Avraham is a picture of the heavenly Father and Isaac is a picture of Yeshua the
