prophecies which, according to the Bible, would classify him as a false prophet rather than a trueprophet of God. For instance, in 1835 Smith claimed that the Lord would again come in just 56 years. We wouldgather from this "prophecy" that Jesus Christ would again come to earth on or before 1891; nodoubt Joseph Smith was incorrect (History of the church 2:182). In 1832 Joseph Smith claimedhe had a revelation concerning the building of a temple in Independence, Missouri. According tosection 84, verses 4 and 5, of the Doctrine and Covenants, he stated this "temple shall be rearedin this generation. For verily this generation shall not pass away until an house shall be built untothe Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it..." to this day the spot consecrated by Smith fails to be thesight of a great temple, but instead is covered with a well-kept lawn. In fact, the Mormon churchdoes not even own the land.

Mormon is a term used to describe the adherents, practitioners, followers or constituents of Mormonism. The term most often refers to a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daySaints (LDS Church), which is commonly called the Mormon Church. The LDS Church believesthat "Mormon" should properly be applied only to its members. Mormonstt=94(Also called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.)This religious body had its origin during the early part of the nineteenth century.Joseph Smith, the founder and first president of the sect, was the son of a Vermont farmer, andwas born in Sharon township, Windsor County, in that state, on 23 December, 1805. In the springof 1820, while living with his parents at Manchester, Ontario (now Wayne) County, New York, hebecame deeply concerned upon the subject of his salvation, a condition partly induced by areligious revival which proselytized a few of his relatives to the Presbyterian Faith.
