Argyll and Bute Council Archives - List Updated to June 26, 2006
Argyll and Bute Council's Archive Service holds and preserves the official records of not only Argyll and Bute Council,but those which the Council inherited from Strathclyde Regional Council and Argyll and Bute District Council and,committed to providing and promoting access to Argyll's archival heritage, the aim is to provide an informative,efficient and helpful service.The Archive Service also provides accommodation for those derived from private individuals, estates, solicitors,businesses and organisations within the area of Argyll and Bute Council, records that are considered of historic interestand worthy of permanent preservation. These private records are often held on indefinite loan and remain the propertyof the person or institute depositing them.As there is but limited reader accomodation it is always advisable to telephone before your visit. USING THE ARCHIVES
When you arrive at reception a member of staff will be available to assist you. Take proof of your identity, e.g. apassport or driving licence, with you and you will then be issued with a Reader's Card and asked that you follow a fewsimple guidelines to enable the records to be preserved for future generations.Please do not eat or drink in the searchroom - Please use only pencils, not pens - Please do not lean on documents tokeep them flat, you will be provided with special weights if required - Do not lean on documents to take notes - Donot mark the document in any way
