activitiesas a child was getting newshoes. For one, it’s alwaysfun to get something new, butmore importantly, it meant thatmy foot was growing bigger! Iremember one year strappingon a new pair of Zipps after dutifully demonstrating on thatmetal shoe-sizer that in fact Iwas ready for the next size up. When I got home, I ran all over the placeuntil I was wisely encouraged to “try them outside.” Outside I ran over mounds and jumped over our planter and scaled our fence – with my newZipps there was no doubt I could go further, faster and higher!I think the same is true in our spiritual lives as individuals and as achurch. The more we give our lives to Christ, the more God is able touse us – in a way, we can go further, faster and higher!I’ve heard people say, “All the church wants is my money.” Part of mewants to respond, “That’s not all God wants… he wants your entire life!”Financial stewardship is one very important part of stewardship (in fact,it is often one of the last parts of stewardship we are willing to give over to God). However, stewardship from a Christian perspective is muchbroader.Christian stewardship is the understanding that all we have and all thatwe are is a gift from God and while we are on planet earth, we are simplymanagers of what God has given. As we invest in creation, the ministryof the church, and our relationships, we do so as an act of love for God,with a desire to see the kingdom expand and the blessing of seeing thegospel go to others. Each week of this sermon series in worship from Oct 18 – Nov 1, wewant to do something that puts our faith in action. As we put our faith inaction we are able to make a greater impact on our culture. The degreeto which we are able to increase God’s footprint on the world is determineby how far we are willing to go with God – ½ way, 2/3, ¾ or all out and fullspeed ahead! Now when I get new shoes, I don’t have the excitement of my foot gettingbigger (probably a good thing when I get new shoes it’s because myshoes are worn out or I’m looking for a new style. Although my footprintisn’t getting any bigger, it’s exciting to think about how we can increasethe size of God’s footprint on the world the more we give our lives toJesus – everything we have and all that we are!It may not be a pair of Zipps, but it’s my prayer that every time we puton a pair of shoes, we pray “Lord, where do you want me to leave your footprint today?” So strap on your shoes so that we may be empoweredby the Holy Spirit to go further, faster and higher and let’s do somethingtogether all for the sake of increasing God’s footprint!Pastor Mike
