Companies that cannot afford the expenses required to push themselves up in search engines rankings are increasingly resorting to more underhanded methods to knock down the image and reputation of their more well-funded competitors. These methods include smear campaigns, the spreading of false rumors, misleading information, and anything else that may damage a company’s reputation to the point where it puts doubt in the minds of consumers considering the purchase of that company’s products and services. A well run campaign will continue to add negative commentary over time to make it appear that there is some sort of growing movement against the targeted company. The commentary can be posted on blogs, forums, in articles, or any place else where it can be seen by consumers on the internet. Search engine optimization of the negative content can draw more viewers to it and increase its “believability” regardless of it being poorly written or its inaccuracies. The damage done, those consumers are then steered toward the sponsors of the negative content. http://reputationmanagementllc.com/

Heather - thank you for checking it out and sharing your compliments. Amish--ditto to you. Cazion--glad you liked the book. Keep me posted on your progress. :) Vijay--let me see what I can drum up for examples and additional on-page tactics. I'm fairly certain I can come up with something. :) For starter example sites, I like to look at sites Google creates since they are the "controllers" of the search universe--if they can't get pages to rank well, something is wrong. Ha! They have a ton of sub-domains which is one strategic approach to take, but the best sites generally make simplistic design *look* complex if that makes any sense. Lots of CSS behind the scenes to better present quality (mostly text) content. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has checked out the document. I've re-branded it as "The SEO Precept" and created a micro-site to better promote it at http://seoPrecept.com Your feedback is always welcomed and valued. Roger

Fantastic piece of work! I am so impressed at how well this is put together. You nailed it. I cannot tell you how many people think that if they put up a website the customers are going to get online and magically "find them". "Poof" - I have a website! And? So? If it is not optimized - who is going to find it? It takes a LOT of work to get indexed well. Truly, it is best to let an expert help you with your SEO for the best results. Great work!!!
