This
question
existed
in
the

mind
for
two
reasons:
(1)
It
is
recalled
that
When

On
that
occasion,
I
told
HEMING\iAY
that
I
did

the
introduction,
whereupon
he
promptly
corrected
himself
and
said

Mr.
JOYCE
made
inquiries
or
HEMINGWAY
concerning
his
attitude
toward working

therefor,
and
reported
that his

to
the
Bureau;
that
he
was

or
the

incident
ot-1940,
and
that
he
regarded
the

as
a
jest.
··It
was
decided,
nevertheless,
that
HEMINGWAY
would work
