Use this skill to master the torturous pronunciationof truenames, each of which involves a dozensyllables, precise timing, and vocalizations foreignto even the most multilingual character. If you're atruenamer, you use this skill every time you deliveran utterance. If you’re a spellcaster with atruename spell at your disposal, you make aTruespeak check to cast the spell properly.Members of prestige classes make Truespeakchecks to activate class features. You can also make a Truespeak check as a freeaction to identify an utterance being spoken, evenwhen it’s not your turn.Of the standard classes, only the truenamer hasTruespeak as a class skill. Other characters canavoid the high cost of cross-class skills by takingthe Truename Training feat.
Action:
Speaking a truename is a standardaction that provokes attacks of opportunity.
Try Again:
Yes.
Synergy:
If you have 5 or more ranks inTruespeak, you gain a +2 bonus in any Knowledgechecks made to conduct truename research. The following are spell-like abilities, equivalent to a0 level spell. They have an effective caster level of 1.

Your words cause an objectwithin 60 feet to glow like a torch, shedding brightlight in a 20-foot radius (and dim light for anadditional 20 feet). The effect is immobile but canbe used on a mobile object. Light taken into anarea of magical darkness does not function. Thiseffect lasts for one minute and does not work onany magical object or any unwilling attendedobject.

With a single word, you cause abright spark of flame to come into existence. Thissmall burst of fire deal 1 point of fire damage toone creature or object within 60 feet. This firedamage is enough to light extremely flammablesubstances, such as oil or paper, on fire. Whenused on an object, use the object's caster level (if ithas one) in place of it's CR.

The simplest way to discover a personal truenameis for someone to teach you that creature'spersonal truename. With only a minute or two of practice, you can understand that truename wellenough to use it yourself. Of course, truenamerstend to be very protective of the truenames theyknow, so most will not part with themwithout some form of compensation. You can also find out the personaltruename of a person, place, or objectusing a combination of mundane andmagical research techniques, but thesearch can be an expensive, time-consuming process as you try to trackdown the name of just one personamong millions. It takes a successful Knowledgecheck in the relevant subskill(Knowledge (dungeoneering) for anaberration's truename or Knowledge(engineering and architecture) for abuilding's truename) to discover apersonal truename. The DC of this check is equal to 20 + the creature'sCR, 20 + the object's caster level (if it has one), oris based on the relative importance of a location(see below). If you have the bardic knowledge classfeature, you can substitute bardic knowledgechecks for the Knowledge check.Just one success is rarely enough to discover apersonal truename. You need a number of successes equal to 1/2 the creature's CR, 1/2 theobject's caster level, or to some number based onthe relative importance of the location (minimum 1;see table 4). Each Knowledge check to discover apersonal truename takes one week and cost1000gp (for various research supplies, library fees, bribes, meditative incense, and so on). Spells castas part of truename research need not be cast byyou, but must be cast with the intent of discovering
