is a definitesignal that they believe they are runningthe show and that you’re only there tofollow their leadership. So they'll pay attention to all kinds of distractions during your walks -- other dogs, kids on bikes, skateboarders,etc...basically anything other than you. It's a very common behavior problem among the dogs I train, but it'sextremely easy to solve. If at all possible, you should really try and watch videos of experiencedtrainers and watch what they do so you can repeat their techniques. We'll talk about this more in a second.First, let’s go over three very easy fixes for your

I've found that using a Pack Leader harness instead of the traditional collar can be an incredible help. This type of harness fits in exactly the right wayaround your dog's body and applies pressure where you need it in order tofocus the dog's attention back on the handler. You can easily find this type of harness on the Internet. It's easy to findplaces that sell it just with a simple Google search.2. Learn about clicker training. A clicker, which in my opinion is like thecure-all of dog training aids. It can be useful in correcting so many differentunwanted behaviors in dogs, that I encourage you to take a look at thistraining method. In a nutshell, the way it works is that you train your dog to expect a rewardwhenever he hears the sound of a click. The great thing about this is thatyou can train your dog to instantly focus on you whenever he hears thatclicker sound. We don’t have a tremendous amount of space in this article to go throughthe ins and outs of clicker training, but there are plenty of resources whereyou can learn the basics.A clicker is useful in correcting leash pulling, because the sound willredirect a dog's attention away from the distraction and back on you.3. Food rewards. Any dog owner knows the power of the food treat to molda dog’s behavior. When using treats to stop a dog’s leash pulling problem, what you basically want to do is introduce the food to your dog, and then letthe dog use his naturally powerful sense of smell to direct his attention andhis movements in the direction you want. This is a little bit difficult to demonstrate without actually seeing it done, solet’s cover that right now.Thankfully, stopping a dog from pulling on his leash isn't all that difficult. I’vedemonstrated some of the exact techniques mentioned above onnumerous TV shows, and would like to share a step-by-step video with youthat shows you exactly how to correct this behavior in around 30 minutes or less.
