 Aragalas:
Significations of various houses are interlinked. Supportprovided by one house to another is called Argala and the obstruction offered to supporting houses iscalled virodha argala.
Primary Aragala:
Planets or bodies in 2, 4 and 11

house cause primary argalas on a given house,whereas the planets in 12
th

and 3

cause virodha argalas to 2nd, 4

respectively.
Secondary Aragala
: Planets or bodies in 5

offer secondary virodha argalas.Banefic generally give shubha argalas, malefic offer papa argalas. If however a malefic has an argala onhouse of which it is a significator, such an aragala can be termed as shubha. *Also benefics can give paparagalas if they are opposed to naisargika karkas of the house. In otherwords if the planets causing aragala are inimical to the house under consideration, it shall prevent thesame from achieving its purpose by showing a different direction **
Special Aragala:
Exception: malefic from 3
rd
house from karka bhava cause shubha aragala. This aragaladoes not have obstruction or intervention. The dictum of signification mentioned earlier does not applyin this case because malefics alone constitute an aragala.Planets or signs in 7H also cause special aragala, intervened or removed by planets/ signs in 1

Ketu counted in reverse:
Vipareetam koteh. If ketu is in a sign from which aragala is determined or ifthe aragala is being determined for Ketu (for spiritual purpose), counting od houses/ signs is done inreverse.

Bandhana Yoga:
Aragala and virodha-aragala from equal number of planets results in Bandhana yoga. Ifboth are malefic, bandhana yoga can be very evil. Bandhana of 4/10 may indicate career unrelated to education ifthe planets are poles apart. 5/9 houses can show teriible misfortunes, jail terms etc if planets involvedare malefic.COVA covers many examples to illustrate the above.
