Denis, FYI, here in Mendocino, California, we have an annual haiku competition/festival called Ukiah Haiku. The City of Ukiah is the county seat. The fact that its a palindrome is something every poet in Mendocino claims to have discovered himself/herself. I don't have the dates for entry in front of me, but they can be found online. Thanks, again.

These are great little poems. I love the amazing compression in the lines: mown roses in this madman's garden... In a way, the intense irony and compassion in so many of these poems belies the warning of your description. Also, I often found the grim imagery darkly humourous. And other times, you made me shudder. Thanks

Thank you, Daniel. I am very glad that you can see beneath the surface of my haiku noir. They operate differently from classic haiku and, I would argue, are an art unto themselves. Here is one more recent: this bar hag with crusted makeup someone’s daughter [Prune Juice 1, Winter 2009.] best wishes, Denis M. Garrison

Garrison is a brave poet who doesn't shy away from any subject. If you're not one who dances with the shadow side of life, move on. This is not the book for you. Alexis Rotella

Like Bergman, Hitchcock and Kubrick before him, Denis M. Garrison continues to demonstrate the raw power and emotion of the image and explores the seemingly bottomless depths of the brief yet enduring haiku moment. Fire Blossoms: The Birth of Haiku Noir provides another fine example of the elasticity of modern haiku.
