Many people who were unable to keep up with their credit card payments strugglewith bad credit. Having a poor credit score could be a result of frequent latepayments, maximizing or exceeding credit limit, or not paying off outstandingbalances. But did you know you can also use a credit card to get yourself out of abad credit situation?
Bad Credit Credit Cards– Tools for Credit Rehabilitation
There are two types of credit cards that you can use to rebuild bad credit aprepaidcredit cardor asecured credit card. Both cards offer instant approval for people who suffer from less-than-perfect credit scores. Both cards also offer theopportunity to regain a good credit standing through smart credit card use. What isthe difference between a prepaid card and a secured credit card?
What Is a Prepaid Credit Card?
A prepaid credit card is actually a debit card which requires that cardholder todeposit funds in his/her account before purchasing. Once the amount has beenused up, the cardholder must again, submit a new deposit to be able to use thecard for purchases. Needless to say, if you don’t have money left in your debitaccount, you will not be able to use your prepaid card for payment.
What Is a Secured Credit Card?
On the other hand, a secured credit card provides its cardholder with a credit line. The value of your credit limit will often depend on the amount of security yousubmit. For instance, if your security deposit is $300, then you will be able tocharge up to $300 worth of purchases to your credit card. There are secured cardsthat do give a slightly higher credit line than the security deposit required. Just like a regular credit card, a secured cardholder can charge purchases in his/heraccount and pay them off at a later time. Just like a regular credit card, thecardholder is expected to pay off balances on or before the due date of payment toavoid incurring the interest rate. If you happen to submit your payment after thedue date, you will be charged with a late penalty fee as well.
Use Your Prepaid or Secured Card to Improve Credit
Whether you choose to get a secured card or a prepaid card, you need to make surethat your issuer provides credit reporting service to the major credit bureaus. Asyou use your card, your payments will be reported to the bureaus and your creditreport will be updated. Take note that some prepaid cards and some secured cardsdo not offer this provision. Thus, you need to do your research before signing up forabad credit credit card.Of course, you need to be very religious in submitting your payments. Submittingyour payment even just a day after your due date will still have a negative impact
