Main factors to be considered during calibration process are change of manning’s coefficient, eddy viscosity and refining the bathymetry. Several model simulations were carried out to identify the best fittings between model data and measured data through altering the given parameters. More sensitive parameter was manning’s coefficient. MIKE 21 HD model was calibrated using the data from the Phase I - Field measurements program.
A reasonable difference in predictions together with bed resistance could be observed in areas with high velocities (Hooghly Point and Rangafalla Channel). A minimum response to bed resistance could be observed from the areas of Shore attached channel and Balari Passage, possibly due to the existence of low velocities. Finally a manning’s coefficient of 0.0133 was selected by considering coefficient of best fittings between model data and measured data.
Figure C1.1 gives the locations of current measurement which was used for model calibration. Points C1 – C6 indicate the actual locations of current measurements. C1*-C4* indicate the points in the vicinity used for model calibrations.
