Very interesting treatment of a phenomenon that western science and medicine tends to dodge rather than address. I have read before about cultures where people perceive themselves and their bodies extending far beyond the confines of skin and skull. It appears historically that it is modern western perception which departs from the established 'normal' view of mind and body as spiritual realities. Our dualistic conception ultimately reduces mind and self (and life) to electro-chemical reactions inside a bio-mechanical container. Selfhood becomes merely an illusion. Akin to Near Death Experience is another out-of-body phonemenon known as Awareness during Sleep Paralysis.
