 399 companies in the S&P 500 have reported earnings thus far for CQ4 2013. 65% have reported earnings better than street expectations, polled by S&P Capital IQ analysts. Collectively, the S&P 500 has reported a 6.2% EPS surprise.
 Of those companies that have announced earnings, 50% have shown double digit or better Y/Y growth. 24 companies have exceeded +100% growth.
 The CQ4 2013 blended expected growth rate for the S&P 500 is, +7.40%. Sectors that are leading the growth trend in
 
clude Telecommunications +87.23%, Materials +23.34%, and Industrials +15.46%.
 Companies still remaining to report with the largest expected earnings growth for CQ4 2013 include

 The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Nasdaq:GT)
 reported earnings of $0.74, well ahead of the S&P Capital IQ EPS consensus estimate of, $0.63. The beat marks the fifth consecutive quarter the company
has exceeded analysts’
expectations. Lower material costs helped drive the bottom line figure. Goodyear grew by over 88% from a year ago when they reported $0.39. Revenues of $4.79 billion were slightly behind consensus, and down -5% from last year. Most impressive was an $802mm of free cash flow, which allowed management to announce they were able to fully fund their U.S. hourly pension. Shares of the stock rose over 11% following the earnings release, and are up over 17% since earlier this month.

Whole Foods Market, Inc. (Nasdaq:WFM)
announced disappointing earnings of $0.42, coming in below the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of $0.44. This was the first time since 2008 that the food retailer has not met or beaten street estimates. Whole Foods grew by over 7% when compared to the same period a year ago. Total revenues of $4.24 billion were also below consensus, but were still up 10% from last year. Store comps grew to +5.4%, but continued a deceleration trend. Management lowered the top end of annual sales guidance to the range of $14.34-$14.47 billion, down from previously $14.34-$14.60 billion. Analysts were quick to follow suit, as many issued downgrades for top and bottom line estimates.
Whole Foods’ stock price fell over 7% after t
he company reported.
