AUTHORITARIAN CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

Presented by: Kay and Atikah

Authoritarian Teacher

Has well-defined ideas of what constitutes unacceptable classroom behavior and is quick to point them out, often with shouting. When children do not follow her directions, the authoritarian teacher will react with shock and anger. Students rarely receive positive reinforcement and support in her classroom. Although this style of management secures immediate compliance by students, it creates anxiety and doesn't improve behavior over the long term.

Authoritarian Management Style

Teacher places firm limits on the students. Students often have assigned seats. Desks are usually in straight rows. Students must be in their seats at the beginning of class. Students are not encouraged to move freely around the classroom.

Teacher rarely gives hall passes or recognizes excused absences. It is often quiet. Students know they should not interrupt the teacher. Since verbal exchange and discussion are discouraged, students do not have an opportunity to learn or practice communication skills.
