Malacanan PalaceManilaForewordThe Philippines today is no longer thougt of only in terms of itsgeographical boundaries. Our national interests go as far as most partsof the world because Filipinos live or work in over 160 countries andterritories. Wenow have an overseas Filipino community that issignificant in its size and outreach, as well as its economic importanceto both the Philippines and the countries where they live. The Filipinos' physical separation from the Philippines has not weakenedin the least the ties that bind them to out Motherland. They contributein many important ways to stability at home and maintain an activeinterest in the progress of our country. In turn, our Government has taken steps to provide overseas Filipinoswith fresh avenues to participate in, and help direct, the course of ournation. The recent passage of the Citizenship Retention andReacquisition Act further strengthens the economic ties betweenFilipinos overseas and the Motherland, with the restoration of fulleconomic rights of those who reacquire their Filipino citizenship.Through this compendium, “Invest in the Philippines”, the governmentprovides Filipinos overseas with accurate and up to date informationabout business and investment opportunities as well as informationessential for doing business in the country. It encourages Filipinos whohave long been living in other countries to take a second look at ourhomeland and invest their capital invetments that can both grownandactively help in nation building.I thank all of those who contributed to the preparation of thiscompendium, and welcome Filipinos overseas who return to thePhilippines where their economic rights and many opportunities forbusiness and investment lie in store for them.(signed)GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYOPresident of the PhilippinesManila.
