The Worcester Telegram & Gazette: How It's Burying Wonderland's Secrets

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette: How It's Burying Wonderland's Secrets

Four months ago this community journalist forwarded the most recent annual audits related to Wonderland 01005 to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

The audits shed a light on the systemic material weaknesses that have long existed in this Hole with respect to Barre Inc.'s money management.

To date the lone person charged criminally has been Marcia Langelier, the town's ex-collector.

The T&G was present for her arraignment - but no other court appearances to date.

The paper's coverage has provided a single culprit identified by a "source" - Langelier. However, when presented with irrefutable evidence of additional material weaknesses beyond the tax collector's office this newspaper has refused to print a single word.

Hand-delivered. And ignored.
Why? C'mon Outsiders...

Eight days before Wonderland’s ex
-collector Marcia Langelier would be indicted by a Worcester County Grand Jury (http://barrenews.wordpress.com/2013/10/31/high-roller-tax-collector-arraigned-whos-next/) , this community journalist forwarded an email to the Worcester Telegram
& Gazette’s “Big Three”: Publisher Bruce Gaultney, Editor L
eah Lamson and Watchdog Editor Gerry Russell. The September 23, 2013 correspondence included the most recent annual audits conducted for
Wonderland by Melanson Heath & Co. (FY ’10) and Powers & Sullivan (FY ’11 /’12). Both audits reveal material weaknesses beyond the tax collector’s offic
e. In fact, many of these

material weaknesses were reported by MH&Co. back in ’06 –
and likely since their hiring back in
’00.
 http://www.scribd.com/collections/4019437/Forensic-Audit-From-All-Angles
And then there’s the troubling fact how both accounting

 firms recognized Wonderland’s
ambulance service as a municipal entity
which it is not. http://www.scribd.com/collections/4019439/Barre-EMS-Money-Matters-being-Investigated Despite these compelling documents, which should have raised serious questions as to how the
T&G has reported the financial “issues” in this Hole, the paper has yet to write a single word
related to these records. Nothing. Such
editorial decisions defy logic. In fact, the Big Three’s silence raises the real specter of
personal agendas at the expense of ethics and objectivity.  A side note, Mr. Gaultney will soon be stepping down (or already has) early this year because of
“health issues”.
Gaultney, Lamson and Russell. Remember these names, Outsiders,
for Wonderland’s twisted tale is still unfolding.

 High Mr. Russell:
I thought I’d forward you & your Watchdog team sufficient evidence to prove what the
T&G has been reporting
over the past 2 ½ years

about Barre’s forensic audit is not
factually correct.
In fact, I’d suggest even more’s at play here –

but that’s a discussion
for another day.

I’ve attached Powers & Sullivan’s management letter for FY ’11 & ’12 as well as Melanson Heath & Co’s management letter from FY ’10.

Oddly enough both the DA’s
Office and MA State Police have refused to release this information citing exemption #5 of the Public Records Law. However, a source felt I should have these records
and more. You can only find what you seek, Mr. Russell.
I’ve provided you enough facts to move forwar
d on this story and report the Truth.
Time will tell…
 Very truly yours, Craig Shibley

Importance:
 High Mr. Russell:
I would like to bring to your attention Barre’s ongoing criminal investigation related to
the forensic audit conducted by Powers & Sullivan last year. In June the T&G reported how this probe was supposedly coming to an end. A reporter quoted Chief Deputy Sheriff David H. Tuttle all the while referencing DA Joseph Early, http://www.telegram.com/article/20130613/NEWS/106139926/1116 . However, the investigation continues - more than 3 months later. In fact, Mr. Russell,
the recent FY ’11 & ’12 audits completed by James Powers are being withheld because
of this ongoing criminal matter.
