So far we have got three children off the streets and back into school. Ronald and Moses– our first two boys– have now completed their first term at Joy Emmanuel Oasis Primary School and have done admirably in their fist set of exams. They are currently enjoying their school holidays, and they are both well and happy in their respective homes; we have been able to reunite Moses with his aunt who is thrilled to be able to look after him during the holidays, and Ronald is doing really well with Allen, his new foster mother (right).
At the beginning of May, the Henderson family took on the sponsorship of Emma (Emmanuel), and he is now well and safe under the roof of the S.A.L.V.E. house. Emma can’t believe his change in fortune, and is indescribably happy to be off the street at last, after he was abandoned by his father six months ago. He is now eagerly awaiting the start of the new school term, and on only his first night off the street he was asking for books so that he could study; what a bright spark!
The house is run by Mike, our Regional Director, and it is the first stop for our children as they are brought off the street. Here they will go through an 'assimilation' period, where each child will get used to their new life and can start to rebuild their childhood bit by bit.
Such a sudden change in situation can be overwhelming for a child, so the S.A.L.V.E. house is a place where they can adjust at their own pace, and get used to living under a roof again. Whilst here, they will re-start their education, attending day school for their first term, and returning to the house and 'Uncle' Mike in the evenings. In this way, Mike is able to keep a close eye on every child, and can ensure that every one of them is happy and healthy on the S.A.L.V.E. program. As a trained counsellor, Mike is ideally suited to this task and runs a counselling course for the children after school each day in order to help them to leave their old lives on the street behind them.

We hope that all of the children who pass through the S.A.L.V.E. house, now, and in the years to come, will be able to begin afresh and open a new chapter in their lives whilst under this roof. And ultimately, as they grow and see their futures mapping out ahead of them, we hope that at last they know that whatever happens, they finally have somewhere that they can always call home.
Girls on the street are particularly vulnerable, and they are prey to the many men who roam the streets late at night. After her grandmother tried to force her into a marriage she
ran away and found herself on the street four months ago. Life for her is hard, but she was at least able to find a little sanctuary at night by sheltering in a church that was being built. However, a couple of weeks ago Moreen returned to the church to find the building work complete and the church locked up. She now has nowhere but the open street to sleep at night and we are seriously worried about her safety.
Together with the kind people of Sutton, Norfolk, they managed to rise £295 for us when they hosted a coffee morning to raise awareness for S.A.L.V.E. and the children we are trying to help. Our thanks go out to Peggy and Dorothy for organising the event and to everyone involved for making it such a huge success. To see pictures of the coffee morning, click here.
And finally, a huge well done also goes to Becky Pitcher who recently completed the Sheffield half-marathon in aid of S.A.L.V.E, raising £200. Our sincerest thanks go to Becky for thinking of us and for all of her hard work.
We want to pass on our thanks in advance to those people who have already pledged their support to us: to Bury Grammar School (Girls) who are soon to hold a non-uniform day in aid of us, to Ro Barrett who will be running the Great North Run for S.A.L.V.E. this autumn, to Nicky Johnson who will soon be running the Robin Hood marathon to raise money for our children, and to the teachers and children of St. Anne’s Church Sunday School who are
