Having Fun With Our Family
by Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister
What a celebrationwe had on Sundaynight at the Follies! Many thanks toDiane and ourMusic Ministry formaking this annual event such awonderful time. First of all, we had agreat meal. The chili was outstanding—and very creative. Thanks to all whoparticipated because even those whodid not win supplied some great food.We have excellent chefs in this church. We also have some great up-and-coming chefs—as Josh Bibydemonstrated in winning the People’sChoice award for his “Root Beer” chili. The thing that really strikes meabout the Follies was the diversity. Wehad old and young, excited and mellow, funny and touching all together. Whereelse in our culture do you see an oldergeneration interacting with a youngergeneration, providing wisdom andsupport, nurture and love? Likewise, where would you find kids entertainingpeople from their grandparents’ generation? From Katie Hurst and herenergetic singing to Emily Gresh andZoey Lee with their dance and hulahoop routines, we had it all. With lots of love present, also. That’s what Ilove about theChurch, andspecifically, ourchurch. We arefamily. We love andsupport one anotherthrough the difficulttimes—and in thefun events. In JesusChrist we are one.

Many thanks go out to all who have made our “Making ADifference” 2010 Annual Campaign such a success thus far!
Bob Steele, campaign moderator, David Watts, campaign advisor, and Erin Robertson, promotionscoordinator have been behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. Our Consecration Sunday was a wonderful celebration, and despite having horrible weather andmany people out sick, we have made big steps toward reaching our goal. So far we have 191 pledgestotaling almost $723,000 for our 2010 General Budget. Our Capital pledges are 134 for a total of almost $250,000. Although weare far from finished, with last year’s 270 total pledges, we are slightly ahead of last year’s numbers. If you have not alreadyturned in your pledge, please do so as soon as possible so that we can bring our celebration home. And thank you! You aremaking a difference in our world—and in your faithful response to God’s overwhelming love in Jesus Christ. Finally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the individuals who helped make our Gratitude Celebration 2009 such aremarkable commemoration of all the ways we are making a diference!

Who of us did not notice those beautiful table arrangements for World Communion andConsecration Sunday? They were so seasonaland so attractive, reflecting both the colors of Fall and our spirit of thanksgiving. We owe oursincerest gratitude for those tables and theirpresentation to Sherry Parks and the Worshipcommittee. Sherry just has this wondrous giftfor seeing the colors, the season, and thetheme for these kinds of worship events. So,Sherry, from all of us: Thank You! Yours is abeautiful gift.

Making A Difference
One Shoebox and Child At A Time!
On Wednesday October 28 FCC will host a packing party for Operation ChristmasChild. Everyone is invited! We begin at 9:30am for set up and begin packing boxes around 10am. You may come and go asyou need. We have packed 110 boxes so far this year, but we still need your help! Please bring small items like soap, tooth-brushes, balls, dolls, matchbox cars, etc. to share. The shoeboxes go to children in orphanages, churches or hospitalsaround the world. A booklet in the child’s own language titled “The Greatest Gift” accompanies each box. As a relay center,FCC accepts filled shoeboxes from other churches and families. We are going to need help throughout the week of November16-22 to pack boxes in cartons. The cartons will then need to be transported to Bloom Electric on Reno at Morgan Road onSaturday, Sunday and Monday Nov. 21-23. If you can help during that time, or would like more information, please contact
Michele Schlough
at 844-3214.
