URBAN DESIGN STANDARDS
Designing a development proposal or subdivisionrequires putting together many complex partsincluding existing site features, streets, blocks,building footprints, open spaces, architecture,etcetera.The Town of Collingwood is creatingUrban Design Standards for newdevelopments sothey can achieveCollingwood’sgoals as described inTown policies and initiatives, such as:•the Official Plan;•the Sustainable Community Plan; and,•Active Transportation initiative.

UNIQUE STANDARDS
 Adjacent to Heritage:developments adjacent to theHeritage District, andDesignated Heritage sites willbe required to be sensitive/ complimentary to thesecultural resources in design.Green Roofs:Collingwood may be thesecond municipality in North America requiring green roofson developments with largerbuilding footprints; reducingtheir environmental impacts.Natural Playground Design:Collingwood may be the firstmunicipality in North Americarequiring natural playgrounds.Their benefits include:reduced impact onenvironment; increaseddiversity of play types; and,improved aesthetics.
