STUDIES IN JOHN’S GOSPEL
Part One
Requirement:
TheLife Application Bible, preferably the New King James Version (NKJV), as alsoavailable in the following Bible translations: NLT, NIV and the KJV. The LifeApplication Bible is a unique Study Bible with over 10.000 Life application Noteschallenging the student to apply the truths of Scripture to everyday life. It includes Bookintroductions, in text maps and charts, personality profiles, topical index, and otherfeatures bringing additional clarity to the Holy Scriptures.
How to proceed:
(a)

Read the portion through, and jot down rough notes on the main subject orsubjects with which it deals. When a clear grasp of the general contents of thepassage has been obtained, then write out the answers to the questions, leaving abrief time at the end for practical application.(b)

Look at the questions first and deal with them during the first reading of thepassage, jotting down rough notes on them. Maybe, there will be time for asecond reading.(c)

Whatever the actual system may be used, it is essential to realise that answeringquestions is simply a means to an end. However, at some stage, time should begiven to such prayerful meditation as will lead to personal appropriation of thespiritual message, and if desired, the recording of spiritual impressions.(d)

Share your results with others. Mutual discussion is the most effective andprofitable method of checking our own individual ideas; as it also deepens ourmutual fellowship in the things of Christ, and it provides a fresh stimulus toproceed in the study of the Word of God, that we may become:“… Those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern….”(Hebrews 5: 14)
About the John, the apostle and evangelist
John, who was a brother of James and a son of Zebedee, was a fisherman in Galilee(Mark 1: 19-20). He must have had a profitable undertaking for he had hired servants inthe fishing business (Mark 1: 20). His mother Salome, was a sister of Mary, the motherof Jesus, making John a cousin of Jesus (compare John 19: 25 with Matthew 27: 56 and61; Mark 15: 40 and 47). His mother was one of those women who followed Jesus andcontributed to His support (compare Luke 8: 03; Matthew 27: 55-56; Mark 15: 40-41).John was unquestionably one of the two disciples who followed Jesus at the beginning of His ministry (John 1: 35-37). About a year later, John was named one of the twelveapostles (Matthew 10: 02). John, along with Peter and James, was one of the three who

My work, “Studies in John” has been published once on Internet in the years 2003/2004, but the “server” suddenly disappeared and the domain www.gita.be remained. Now, it is published again on this site for your inspiration. Where we stand is "holy ground", His Presence is here, not elsewhere. We live, move and have our being in God. In the Bible, and in our Christian living, to have a better understanding of God, we personalise Him. But, that is not so in the invisible. God is first of all Spirit. We are surrounded by Him. He infolds you and I. He is the protecting One. His Presence, not there, but here, watches over us, and wherever we are "God is". "God is my help in every need; God does my every hunger feed; God walks beside me, guides my way through every moment of the day. I now am wise, and loving, too. All things I am, can do, and be, through Christ, the Truth that is in me. God is my health, I cannot be sick; God is my strength, unfailing quick; God is my all, I know no fear, Since God (God the Father) and love (Jesus Christ and Truth (the Holy Spirit) are here. "In Him, we live, move and have my being" (Saint Paul). Night and day, never ceasing for one single moment, there is somewhere in the world the Holy Eucharist (Holy Mass) celebrated, for you personally and for all. Should you need help, wherever you are, whatever the hour of the day or night, let but an unspoken cry rise from your heart, linking up with a Holy Mass somewhere, or even a "Prayer Group" (monastery, local church, etc), and with the speed of Spirit the prayers will be with you. Prayer is a protecting power. The Holy Eucharist is the longest, and greatest prayer. it unifies you instantly with God, whose love is your and my protection. You have a crucifix in your home, give it the best place, His Trinitarian Presence is there, as in the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist (however, here in a special way). Every activity, whatever, in the Church, starts with the Holy Eucharist. + Philippe L. De Coster Archbishop of the Latin Old Roman Catholic Church of Flanders. www.haguratelier.com/Oremus.html
