PROGRAM PLANNING GUIDEBUILDING INFORMATION MODELING
Certificate of Completion 44 credits(220 contact hours)PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of generating and managing building data during itslife cycle. Typically it uses three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic building modeling software to increase productivity in buildingdesign and construction. The process produces the Building Information Model (also abbreviated BIM), which encompasses buildinggeometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: BIM
Drafters translate the ideas and rough sketches of engineers and architects into detailed drawings.Experienced workers may advance to plan checkers, detailers or design drafters. A typical work week of 40 hours, but overtime maybe required to meet deadlines. Drafters work for engineering and architectural consulting firms, manufacturing firms, designers, and a variety of government agencies.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
South Puget Sound Community College believes that all students need to develop a broad range of abilitiesthat will not only make them more effective in their professional pursuits but will enhance their capacity to relate well to others intheir daily lives. Therefore students who complete the program will be able to:Demonstrate the following skills standards specific to Computer Aided Drafting:

Produce design documentation to industry standards using Building Information Modeling software.

Develop complete architectural plans with consideration for aesthetics, cost, methods of construction, building codesand common industrial practices.

Model mechanical design concepts in 3D using the latest solid modeling software.

Develop realistic static and animated visualizations of designs.

Work in design teams.

Communicate effectively.Think logically and critically.Evaluate and process quantitative and symbolic data.
CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:
Based on placement testing, basic skills and/or pre-college English, Reading, or Math may berequired (ENGL 097, READ 097 & MATH 090). Deficiencies must be completed prior to graduation; however, students are stronglyencouraged to enroll at the beginning of their education.See the Curriculum Planning Worksheet.

I understand that BIM Technology is an emerging technol
ogy and consider myself a “life

long learner”
I work well in a team environment with a diverse group of classmates.Although my experience working with design and construction of buildings may be limited, I understand most employersare looking for experienced individuals that understand not only how to model but also what they are modelingIf you indeed agree with these statements you may a good candidate for this emerging technology.
