Burma Democratic Concern (BDC) today calls for world leaders to not to get lost injunta’s game plan of sham 2010 election instead of focusing on nationalreconciliation. Ruling junta of Burma which gunned down more than 3000 peacefuldemonstrator came to power in 1988.Junta held the election in 1990 in which Aung San Suu Kyi led National League forDemocracy (NLD) won landslide victory. Junta still ignores to honour it andinstead put Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest. During their reign of terror,people of Burma are suffering tremendously. Junta never hesitate to use brutalforce to quell anyone who opposes their illegitimate rule.Aung San Suu Kyi officially once said that “That the results of the 1990 GeneralElections must be implemented is a resolution already taken by the United Nations.We already know that the General Assembly of the United Nations has accepted thenotion that the will of the people has been expressed in the 1990 GeneralElections. This is something we cannot abandon. It will be to the detriment of ourcountry if after an election has been held the results are not honoured and we donot resist attempts to trivialise it”.She reaffirmed again the importance of implementing 1990 election result and thenecessary practical action taken by international community by saying "Since 1992,the United Nations General Assembly has been passing resolutions on the humanrights situation in Burma. But resolutions are not enough. Resolutions should beimplemented. We think it is time that the international community took a greaterinterest in getting the terms of the resolutions implemented".In 1996 students demonstrations were broke out and junta harshly crack down bybeating, torturing and imprisoning student leaders. Junta held their so-calledNational Convention attended by their hand-picked delegation for 14 years long todraw the sham constitution which legitimise military rule in Burma.In 2003, junta ambushed the Aung San Suu Kyi’s motorcade attempting to assassinateAung San Suu Kyi in Depaeyin, upper Burma resulting in hundreds of her supporterswere cruelly beaten to death. Until today, the state sponsor culprits who murderedAung San Suu Kyi’s supporters are still at large. Junta took no action againstthem and instead put Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest again.In 2007 Buddhist monks led the tens of thousands of people on the street demandingfor change in Burma. Military responded by shooting, beating, arresting andkilling the saffron robed monks and peaceful demonstrators. During the saffronrevolution, more than 200 lives were lost and hundreds were missing.In 2008 May, Cyclone Nargis struck Burma which left more than 250, 000 diedleaving 2.5 million homeless. Instead of helping unfortunate victims of Cyclone,junta prioritise to adopt its sham constitution through sham referendum. Juntaeven blocked to give humanitarian assistance to victims which outragedinternational community some calling for R2P.Aung San Suu Kyi once said that “It is even appropriate or justified for theinternational community carries out the responsibility to intervene in theinternal affairs of another country whose power are creating hell for thepopulation. The international community as a whole should recognise that it hasgot responsibilities. It can’t ignore grave injustices that are going on withinthe borders of any particular country.”Recently in 2009 May, junta plot the ploy to imprison Aung San Suu Kyi since her 6years under house arrest was expire.
