Kenya’s economy faces significant challenges. As in the past,
trade will be a major factor in the country’s capacity to overcome
them. Developing countries have actively participated
in the World Trade Organization’s Doha negotiations in contrast
with the more passive role they played during the preceding
Uruguay Round. The global financial crisis and its consequences
make their participation more important than ever. By analyzing the impact
of the Doha Round on Kenya, this study contributes to the larger debate
about the role of trade liberalization in development.
