ABSTRACT

Radio is a telecommunications device that sends electromagnetic wave in which propagate through the air. Radio device consists of electronic components used to process analog signals and have limited capability. Analog electronics components have not be able to meet the needs of current telecommunication technologies, such as high bit rate and small devices. Entering the digital era resulted in the development of electronic components to programmable electronic devices that used in radio, so that emerging new technologies called Software Defined Radio (SDR). SDR is a radio in which the operating parameters, including the frequency range, modulation type or output power, can be set or altered by software. In this final project will be carried out research to build one part of the SDR architecture, the baseband processing engine. Device used to build this system is the Digital Signal Processor Starter Kit (DSK) TMS320C6713 from Texas Instruments. In the implementation phase, the DSK is programmed directly using Matlab Simulink integration to build Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation and demodulation. There are four systems implementation from this final project, DIP Switch FG system, DIP switches PG system, multiport system, and dual board alternately system. Tests conducted to determine the performance of DSK TMS320C6713 that shown in the chart of Bit Error Rate (BER) versus Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR). Testing is done by sending 10.000 bits in 1 kbps and 2 kbps bit rates. The best performance found on the DIP Switch PG system implementation with average value of BER reach 0 at more than 10,61 dB SNR and average value of BER which found bit errors reach 0,467E-03. Meanwhile, the worst performance of the system implementation are DIP Switch FG system and dual board alternately system with the average value of BER reach 0,5 for all SNR conditions due to clock out of sync between devices. Keywords : Software Defined Radio, BPSK, DSK TMS320C6713, BER, SNR.
