Enclosed in this single posting are 4 teachings on Pastoral Care in the Sword of the Spirit. They are:
1. PERSONAL PASTORING
2. PASTORAL GROUPS: THEIR COMMITMENTS
3. THE PASTORAL GROUPS: MEANS OF PARTICIPATING
4. PASTORAL GROUPS: HOW TO BE BROTHERS IN THE LORD
5. A PERSONAL PASTORAL PLAN FOR JOHN FLAHERTY
The fifth document was my personal pastoral plan developed by my pastoral leader in 1988 and presented to me in the form posted here. I was allowed to make the changes that are seen in the handwriting on the document. I removed the name of my pastoral leader as it is not my goal to assign any sort of negative connotation to individuals. It was the Clarkian pastoral and theological ideas that lead to the over-controlling of adults and the usurping of the husband's role as head of his family as defined by scripture.
One observation I have on the re-reading of this document today (03-18-2010) is in the area of Confidentiality. The document talks about how important the confidentiality issue is in the small groups, and when it is appropriate to break it. However, it NEVER addresses the way the Pastoral Leaders should or did handle personal, confidential information about the "pastoree's" life. That information -the more "serious" (or entertaining?) it was- went up the pastoral ladder so that many different members in pastoral authority heard about it. Tom Kneier discusses this matter in the document posted as DOOMED FROM THE START. The community kept files on people for many years, with documents inside that had very personal information in them. My understanding is that these files were later destroyed, but who really knows?
Please forgive some of the editorializing I did in the margins. This was done after I left the Community. It may not make a lot of sense to the reader but it doesn't change the things the document says. I thought about using white out to remove the comments but decided not to mar the document any further.
