New interface design
The most immediately noticeable dierence in PhotoshopCS3 is the new interace design, which is part o a widerstrategy to give all the applications in the CS3 creative suitea more unied look and thereore make the interaces moreconsistent when switching between applications. To start with you will notice how the tools palette ispresented in a single column. Now that we are all usingbigger displays, there is no real need or the old twocolumn version. You will also notice that the palette wellhas disappeared rom the tool options bar. The palettescan now be displayed on the let or right hand side o thescreen grouped into multiple column docking zones andeasily hidden or made visible by rolling the mouse to either

side o the screen. The main intention here has been tocreate the most ecient use o screen space when workingwith the palettes and image documents. Palette docking iseasier to accomplish and in the Windows layout in Figure1.1 you can see how the palettes in the second column romthe right have been compressed into tabbed palette mode. All palettes can now be collapsed in this way so that thepalettes are represented as icons that graphically indicatethe identity o each palette. To collapse a palette dockingzone, you just click on the double arrow button at the top o each palette zone and click again to expand the palettes.
