MAN ON THE MOON!


ARMSTRONG TAKES GIANT LEAP
AMERICAN NEIL ARMSTRONG has become the first man to walk on the Moon. He stepped onto the Moon's surface at 2.56am. He said Thats one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind. Edwin Aldrin joined Armstrong 19 minutes later.

Landing
Armstrong and Aldrin landed on the Moon at 2.18am in their spacecraft, Eagle. They had to land four miles from where they wanted because of large rocks. They almost ran out of fuel. When they landed, Armstrong said Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed.

First Step
At 2.39am, Armstrong opened the door of The Eagle. At 2.51am, he started to climb down the ladder. At 2.56am, his left foot touched the Moon. Armstrongs first step was seen by over 600 million people all over the world on TV. "Here men from the planet Earth first set foot upon the Moon July 1969 AD. We came in peace for all mankind." The President of the USA, Richard Nixon, spoke to the men while they were on the Moon. He said that they had brought the world together. While Aldrin and Armstrong were on the Moon, Michael Collins was going around the Moon in the spacecraft, Columbia. Later today, Eagle will take off from the Moon and join Columbia again. Then the three men will return to Earth.!

Moon Walk
Armstrong and Aldrin spent almost two and a half hours walking on the Moon. The two men practised walking on the Moon. They took lots of photos of the Moon. Armstrong said the surface of the Moon was soft on top but hard underneath. At 3.41am Armstrong and Aldrin placed the American flag on the Moon. Then they placed a metal sign which said:
