About the piece

The premise of Arundo Donax is the juxtaposition of
dissonant set class (0,1,6,7) and the consonant set class (0,2,5,7).
The piece is primarily a gradient from the prior to the later. A
clearer sense of tonality is reached, at which point the composition
is treated in a more simplistic fashion. The consonance is then
partially abandoned as the piece is ended in a broken reflection of
the introductory material.
