 THE RIGHT TO INDEPENDENCE
Means that the state has the right to determine its own course of action.INTERVENTION is inconsistent to this right. TYPES OF INTERVENTION:1.Domestic- it is considered an intervention when one state interferes with thedomestic affairs of the others state with or without its consent2.International-when state A interferes with the relationship of states B and Cwithout consent, there IS an intervention- when state A interferes with the relationship of states B and C with consent,there IS NO intervention. When state B and C gave their consent, they hadincluded state A in their relationshipWHEN A STATE BECOMES INVOLVED IN SETTLING DISPUTES BETWEEN 2 OTHERSTATES, it is considered:SITUATION: State A and B are fighting, State C offers to help1. Tender of Good Office- C its own resources to B and A such as venue for theirreconciliation without actually getting involved in the process2.Mediation-C offers solutions to the problem between A and B but they maynot necessarily follow C’s suggestions3.Arbitration-A and B asks C to be the arbiter or the judge of the 2 states. A andB are bound to follow C’s decision regarding their caseOTHER JUSTIFIABLE INTERVENTIONS:1.Self preservation2.When intervention is on the ground of humanity and religion(e.g. to savelives)3.When intervention is intended to carry out a treaty stipulation4.When intervention is done by general sanction5.When necessary to maintain an existing balance of power

This presentation had been repeatedly extrapolated from institutionalist authors that it fails to incorporate the tact modern societal setting.
