Eveyone is invited to stay after church today for a Mission Luncheon when our missionaries will speak to us about their recent trips. Haiti missionaries Bill Brown, Alene Gibson, Lee Ann Crosslin and Savannah Curtis will report on their recent trip. Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, is March 5. We will have our traditional Ash Wednesday Service with imposition of ashes at 6:30 PM in the sanctuary. Ash Wednesday is the start of the Lenten journey of 40 weekdays (Monday through Saturday) that takes the church to the eve of Easter (Easter is April 20 this year). Sundays are not included in the count of 40 days, as Sundays in the Christian Year are always considered "little Easter" celebrations. CPWM Meeting held February 27. Attendees: Mary Thompson, Mary Jo Haynes, Connie Spears, Kathy Binney, Gina Jones, and Mary Ann Smith. The meeting was opened in prayer led by Kathy Binney. It was decided that CPW

would change their meeting time to Saturday mornings beginning March 29 at 10 a.m. They discussed their vision for CPW which includes volunteer work, take food to homebound, organize the church library, and do some fun things such as going to see a play, meeting for a picnic, etc. Discussed meeting at the same time the men meet but in different rooms. Each woman present was given different names of women who attend church regularly to send out a personal invitation to the next meeting on March 29. The meeting was closed in prayer led by Mary Thompson. Wednesday Prayer Meetings. General discussion during the hour, discussing the church, prayer concerns, etc. The Pastor will be available in his office from 5:30 to 6:30 PM and 7:30 to 8:30 PM each Wednesday for individual prayers related to some need you may have, or for counseling, or for talk about some church matter. You may call 406-6385 to reserve a time. Rotation Sunday School - All the children will be split into three groups and rotate through three 20 minute classes. Ben will have one group teaching them music education and Bible verses that go along with the songs they will be learning. This group will meet in the sanctuary. Robbie will be teaching another group on crafts, games, cooking and other great adventures the kids will get excited about. They will be in the kitchen, fellowship hall or outside when it gets warmer. The last group will be Brad's group where the children will learn a Bible study that teaches them knowledge of God's word on their level. They will meet up in the youth room. The three groups will begin at 8:50 am and will rotate till they finish at 9:50 am. The themes of Sunday School will tie into what the kids are learning in Children's Church. We will do themes on The 10 Commandments, The Sermon on the Mount, and other great messages from God's Word. We are excited abut getting started and look forward to this being a great new ministry to bring more children into our church. Please be in prayer for the success of this great new ministry we are adding to New Hope. Compassionate Hands. This program that benefits the homeless community of Lebanon concluded its good work last week for this year. The church deeply appreciates the hard work of Alene and Lee Ann and others who stayed each Saturday night at the church, prepared breakfasts and did other tasks. This program is truly an example of the church carrying out its mission in the world. Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone. Mens and Womens Ministries Grow Your Faith

New Hope is seeking to grow the Womens Small Group based on the Cumberland Presbyterian Womens Ministry (CPWM). Elder Mary Thompson has been organizing this. Our purpose will be to accept and share the love and joy of Jesus Christ through the ministry of women in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. We seek to do this as we pray, study God's Word, and reach out to others through mission, service, encouragement and fellowship. This goal will be accomplished through a diversity of ministries. CPWM is an opportunity for the women in our congregation to fellowship, share devotional time, minister to the community and grow in grace as Christians. All women in the church are members and are a part of the larger Womens Ministry in the denomination. Ladies, please let us know if you would be interested in this ministry and what time would be better for you by completing the tearoff portion of todays bulletin. As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. - Proverbs 27:17 We will attempt our first meeting in the middle of March. New Hope is seeking men interested in forming a vibrant Mens Ministry within the church. The Men's Ministry will be a time for men to come together for fellowship, support and building relationships as we go through our Christian journey. We will discuss ways to help with needs inside and outside our church, whether through handyman type projects or whatever needs may arise. We will become the focal planning team for events that the men organize such as the Mothers Day Brunch and Valentines banquet. Church buildings and grounds maintenance (mowing) will also be a focus. Most importantly, through this ministry, we can build on having a better relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Men, if you are interested in strengthening your walk with Christ, please let us know your level of interest in this ministry by completing the tear-off portion of todays bulletin.

The Transfiguration Matthew 17:1-9 New International Version (NIV) 17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three sheltersone for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah. 5 While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him! 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. Get up, he said. Dont be afraid. 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus. 9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, Dont tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.

The Gospel Lesson

The message is entitled God on the Mountain, borrowing from the name of a Southern Gospel song recorded by Lynda Randle, the Gaithers and maybe others. The scripture is one of the most fascinating passages in the Bible. Jesus has seen the handwriting on the wall. He is going to be shamefully treated and killed in the nottoo-distant future. He shared this knowledge with his disciples but they were in denial - they didnt even hear what he said. It was not until after the resurrection that they recalled a truth they didnt even hear at the time. Nevertheless, Jesus was human and he needed to prepare for something that was going to be hard to take. So he goes to the mountain. He needs some Up Time before going to the valley of the shadow of death. He needs not only a suitable place to go, he needs a support group. So he takes three of his best friends. In time he meets two more friends from a long time ago. He is not alone. He has a past. He has a future. He has community with God, who loves him completely, and three others on earth, and two others that define His very being - the nature of who He is.
