THE BROWN LIST - 2009
The day you waited for is here. Welcome to
The Hollywood Temp Diaries
first-annual presentation of
 The Brown List
(http://brownlist.tempdiaries.com).This report is designed to be a resource for job seekers and might just answer the question "Do I reallywant to work for [Hollywood Executive]?" Over the course of the last month, I received more than1,200 nominations for people's MOST-LIKED and LEAST-LIKED entertainment industry executives.I appreciate every response. And now, after hours at the computer, I have the results. To recap - the nomination process was simple. All you needed to do was fill out the form and hitSUBMIT. You could nominate as many people as you wanted as many times as you wanted.Additionally, it was a completely anonymous process. So if your name rhymes with “ShmariShmanuel,” and you want to know who nominated you for "Least Liked," track that person down andhave them killed, I will be unable to assist. Sorry.Enjoy the list for what it is – whatever that is. Pass it along to your friends. Pass it along to yourenemies. Practice your origami. But no matter what, realize
The Brown List
is the most importantdocument since the Dead Sea Scrolls. It'd also be neat if it shames certain executives into cleaning uptheir act. However, I doubt that will happen.A couple quick housekeeping items...The titles and companies listed next to each executive are based on the most current information frommy pirated Studio Systems account. So if a nominee no longer works at that company, or if their titleis incorrect, blame the Internet. Also, for multiple execs with the same name, I picked the person whoseemed most important. I did the best I could. Technically it's your fault as I asked you to list theircompany. And now on to the results…
THE MOST-LIKED ENTERTAINMENT EXECUTIVES
Being liked in Hollywood is a blessing and a curse. If you're affable, people will want to work withyou, but you'll probably get eaten alive and accomplish nothing. I mean, look at this list. It's mostly abunch of middle management types with a sprinkling of senior execs. This is in stark contrast to the"Least-Liked" list which offers a heavy dose of presidents, CEOs and managing partners. There's alesson in there somewhere.Following is the Top 5 (based on number of nominations) for theMost-Liked Entertainment Executive.[Note: I would've listed the Top 10, but because of how the nominations turned out, that would meanposting the entire list here.]

Key Findings from the Most-Liked List:

This list skews lower on the organizational hierarchy -- lots of Creative Execs and DevelopmentDirectors. I offer the following as possible explanations 1) people become less likable as theyget older, or 2) the Junior execs nominated themselves. I think it's a little bit of both.

There were 46 fewer nominees for the “Least Liked” than on the “Most Liked.” The probablereason is there are more unlikable people in this industry.

I've temped for nine of these executives and find the sentiments of others to be accurate. I alsointerviewed to work for three of these people. I'm sorry I didn't get those jobs.

Scott Rudin and Ari Emanuel are both on this list. It's a coin flip as to whether they ended uphere by accident or on purpose.

Some bona fide celebrities made this list – Steven Colbert, Rob Reiner and Ahmet Zappa. Ok,maybe Ahmet isn't a celebrity, but he's kinda close, right?

No one in Human Resources or at any staffing firm/temp pimps made this list. That said, theydidn't make the Least-Liked either.

Bob Iger and the guy he recently booted (Dick Cook) got the same number of nominations – 2.

Some people provided a little commentary on their nominees (or lack of nominees). Here aresome of their thoughts:

“Can't think of one or they got fired”

“LOL – Most liked”

“Nobody”
