DECEMBER 2008
This was a year of change. The year that gas hitfour dollars a gallon… That the Dow fell nearlyforty percent from 13,340 to a recent low of 8175... That the future of a number of jobs atHanford came into question…So far the very real tough economic times that hitsome parts of the country haven’t come to Pascoand the Tri-Cities. So far, real hardship is still some-thing that we see on TV rather than at home.Time will tell what 2009 will be…but it willalmost certainly be different than 2008, oneway or another. And in uncertain and unsettledtimes, it’s good to be here, in a communitywith a history of neighbors helping neighbors.
Whatever 2008 did to individual nances,
almost everyone really can help someoneelse in some way or another. And thattradition—that ethic—is more importantthan ever. Giving isn’t about whatwe have, it’s about who we are.And that’s something that weshouldn’t let change. For those who can help
their neighbors nancially,
many groups and organi-zations would welcome theassistance. They will likely face agreater demand for services than ever.
For those who can’t help nancially,
there are other ways to help, andthat’s every bit as important tothis—or any—community. If you don’t know of a group that you feelstrongly about helping, several belong to thePasco Chamber of Commerce. Chamber staff members are happy to point you in a directionor make an introduction for you. Additionally, almost any church can point to families or groupsthat need help.In uncertain and unsettled times, we don’t know
what 2009 will bring…but we can reafrm who
we are as individuals and as a community bycaring, practically, for our neighbors. And thatwill make the future better than sitting and wait-ing news headlines to tell us what to think orhow to feel...
Is It Time to Look Back Yet?

Happy Holidays andMerry (soon-to-be)Christmas!Coming to the end of 2008, your Pasco Chamberof Commerce is looking backat a year of renewal—renewalof focus, renewal of energyand renewal of growth. It’s anexciting time to be part of thisorganization!Last month, the board investeda day in strategic planningunder the facilitation of Organi-zational Development Con-sultant Mark Gladstone. TheChamber’s vision andgoals were discussedat length. It was con-cluded that the groupvision for the Pasco Chamberneeded to be centered on the“enhancement of relationshipswithin the business community”and “supporting our members,to ultimately make Pasco andthe surrounding area a betterplace to live, work, and play.”Look for more precise wordingto be introduced in the nearfuture…One way the Chamber is put-ting this vision into practice isthrough continued develop-ment of relationships withFranklin County’s agriculturecommunity. Next month, theChamber will host the
2009Pasco Ag Show
. Please put iton your calendar and supportyour Chamber by stoppingin to learn about the industrythat has always been Pasco’seconomic mainstay. If youhaven’t spent time on a farmin recent years, you’ll beshocked at the technologicaland business expertise ittakes to produce the productsthat we take for granted…
