ECET 368 Single Supply Amplifier Lab Exercise
name ________________  partner _______________ lab section ____________
Objectives
Design and verify the performance of an inverting and a noninverting amplifier.
Procedures A.

Inverting Amplifier

1.
Design an inverting amplifier for a gain of
50, and an input impedance of 33 k
Ω
, operating from a single 5 V
dc
supply. Set
f
3dB low
< 50 Hz.
2.
Perform a circuit simulation and compare dc, gain, and frequency performance of the theory, and simulated circuits.
3.
Build the circuit that you have designed. Do not forget to include decoupling capacitors, connected directly to the power pins.
4.
Measure all dc voltages. Compare each to the designed value.
5.
Once the amplifier is properly biased, apply the input signal. Capture the output signal.
6.

Evaluate gain accuracy and distortion.
7.

Measure both
f
3dB low
and
f
3 dB high
. Compare each to the designed values. Instructor checkoff _______
B. Noninverting Amplifier
Repeat the steps for section A for a noninverting amplifier with a gain of +51. Instructor checkoff _______
C. No Report Challenge 1.
Convert the Instrumentation Amplifier below to run from a single 5 V
dc
supply. Alter the biasing so that the voltage a point I is 2.5 V
dc
when R1 is shorted (i.e. when
A
=
B
).
2.
Calculate the output when R1 is
not
shorted.
3.
Demonstrate the circuit’s output voltage with R1 shorted and not shorted.
