ART AWARD 2009 109 Clarendon

Introduction Founded on the basis of entrepreneurial ability, meticulous planning, creative vision & innovative property development solutions, Salvo Property Group (incorporating First Delta Group) is a successful Australian property developer who is proudly committed to delivering quality landmark developments. One of their development projects currently being constructed is 109 Clarendon. This development is an innovative state of the art designed residential apartment tower, uniquely sited so as to offer both city & neighbourhood living. Consisting of 173 apartments over 34 levels, 109 Clarendon offers living right on the edge of Melbournes CBD & entertainment precinct. 109 Clarendon is located on the corner of City Road & Clarendon Street Southbank, a major city-fringe intersection and thoroughfare situated only a short distance from Melbournes Crown Casino. As part of this development, an Art Panel is to be constructed across the lower levels of its faade. Salvo Property Group is offering a one-off opportunity to local student artists to design an image for this element of the building. Objective In collaboration with the community, Salvo Property Group would like to give local student artists the rare opportunity to showcase their works publicly on a large scale, and with an air of difference. Undoubtedly, the panel is of considerable size and combined with its prominent location, the exposure & publicity it shall receive is expected to be quite prestigious. Entrants Salvo Property Group is proud to offer all RMIT Art students the opportunity to display their creative work on the panel at the development at 109 Clarendon. This opportunity, to be offered as a one-off award via a competition, is open to all undergraduate & post-graduate students currently studying any art discipline at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University. Prize A $5,000 First Prize will be offered by Salvo Property Group to the winner of the Award. In addition, the winning entry may have their artwork reproduced on the Art Panel at 109 Clarendon. Theme Students are strongly encouraged to utilise their creative & innovative skills in order to produce artistic works that integrates with the development as a whole and is widely accepted and appreciated by the community. The Theme is innovation, creativity and new insights in the context of art in public space. It is suggested that applicants consider location with respect to scale, viewing points and modes of viewing, i.e. from the perspective of passing cars, pedestrians and trams.

Specifications The panel measures approximately 11 metres in height (approximately 4 storeys high), with a 6.5 metre span along City Road & a 9 metre span along Clarendon Street.
