12603Dear
Mr.
Gorton:
As you
are
surely
aware,
afatal
accident
took
place
within
the
Village
of
Tivoli
on
March
3,2014.
The
accident occurred
at
the
intersection
of
NYS
Route 9G
and
West
Kerley
Corners
Road.
Reports
byofficials who
investigated the accident have
stated
that they do not believe the roadway and
or
intersection played
a
part
in
the
accident.
However,
this
has
not
stopped
residents
of
the
Village
of
Tivoli
who
use
this
intersection on
a
daily
basis
from
contacting
me
to
inquire what
is going
to
be done
to
address
their
concerns about
what
is perceived
to
be dangers at
this
intersection.
I
greatly appreciate the fact that
you
and
your
colleague
from
the
DOT
attended
the meeting
at
BardCollege
recently. I
believe
it
was avery
good conversation
and began
a
dialogue that must take place. We must
be
cognizant
of
the fact that there
are
individuals who
may
be
unaware that there is
a
college
and
a
village
offof
Route
9G.
In
my opinion,
unless
the entire
corridor
is revamped
with
better
signage
to
alert drivers
of
these
growing communities,
we cannot
rest.
Again,
I
believe
our
conversation
at
Bard
recently was
a
very
good
step
to
discussing
this corridor
and
what
needs
to
be
done. I
understand that any
major
changes
to
this corridor
are
going
to take
time
and
funding.
However,
I
ask
that
until
any
significant
changes are
made that,
atthe very
least,
Alert
Signs
be
considered
for
placement along
9G.
I've
seen
similar
sigus on the
NYS
Thruway
and
other
major
highways
to
alert drivers
to
road
construction,
lane closures,
etc.
I
thank
you in
advance
for your consideration.
Please note
that
I write
this
on behalf
of
the
Village
of
Tivoli
and
all
residents
who
have placed
their trust in
me
to
ensure
their
safety
and
welfare.Bryan
