Ground Rules
1. Respect each other. 2. Respect the equipment. Without permission, pupils are not allowed to pick up the musical instruments displayed in the music teaching room. 3. Arrive on time. 4. Mobile phone use in the teaching room: off or on silent, including parents and carers'. 5.No eating in the teaching room. Be prepared before your music sessions, keeps clean, tidy and alert. 6. No running. Young learners can not leave the house without adults' supervision. 7. Comfort breaks: if you need to use the toilet please just ask to be excused. 8. Come equipped for the day. Make sure bring over the music books needed, including theory workbooks, the practice notebook, etc. 9. No racism 10. Do not turn up under the influence of alcohol or drugs, no smoking inside the house (Including parents and carers). 11. Parents, carers are welcome to stay in the teaching room as silent onlookers. If the pupil comes with young siblings, parents and carers are suggested to wait in the lounge or go for a walk to help the pupil concentrate. 12. Please park on the drive provided. Most of all enjoy learning, try hard and have fun! These rules are discussed, agreed during the first session. It is also displayed on the wall in the teaching room, on the teaching Blogs, in emails and together with the Pupil Profile Form. Learners will be asked to sign a copy to confirm that you agree to follow these rules.
Outside sessions: By reminding the learner to practise in the first place and by making space (temporal and physical) for them to do so; by helping the learner to practise effectively and perhaps simply by requesting a performance of pieces or even some scales currently being studied. Check out the News by click the link: http://musicteachingyanlijones.blogspot.com/2013/11/news.html Other useful information: Support for learners practice and progress Support from families in providing suitable space and encouragement for regular practice is an essential element of progress and enjoyment in learning music. Practise everyday for at least 15 minutes if possible. We use The ABRSM Practice Notebook for teachers to record what we have learned and explain about what and how to practise. Parents/carers are encouraged to record daily practice times and for communication between teacher and families. Examinations We encourage learners to enrol the practical, musicianship and theory examinations of various examination boards including The Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM), Rock School, Trinity Guildhall and the London College of Music. The ABRSM practical exams in this region are taken place in Hoddesdon and the theory exams are in Herford. The teacher will provide advice about when to enter and how to enrol, etc. For more information about exams and different exam boards, please visit our music teaching Blog. http://musicteachingyanlijones.blogspot.com/2014/01/exams-and-exam-boards.html Achievement For all pupils who have completed Part 1, Part 2 or Part 3, John Thompsons Easiest Piano Course, a certificate will be granted by the teacher. For those who pass their grade exams will receive their certificates from the exam boards. All the graded exam high scorers may perform in different concerts in public or to parents, friends. At the end of each term and before graded exams, we have the end of term performance and mock tests, parents/carers and family are encouraged to come along. If you are interested in singing in the choir (adult and children) and perform regularly in local concerts; if you are interested in joining in some summer music holidays organized by local experienced music tour leaders, please let us know. Communications We use the ABRSM Practice Notebook to maintain a record of practice and to assist communication. There is Parents/carers comments box to fill in if you have any question. Teacher may answer you in person when she is available or in email,
telephone, mobile text, etc. If anything urgent, please talk to us directly. An End-of-term Assessment Report will be given to parents/carers.
Renting or buying a 2nd hand instrument If you are thinking about renting an instrument or buying a second-hand instrument, please talk to us, we can help you by passing a few contact numbers or recommend a few websites. Piano tuner The specialists suggest us that piano should be turned every 6 months or twice a year. New pianos need to be tuned 4 times during the first year until broken in. We can pass you the contact number of a reliable tuner we used.
