Design of Low Rotational Speed of Axial Flux Generator Using Permanent Magnet Neodymium (NdFeB) Varied in Air Gap

Author : Dimas Waluyo Jati (L2F008112). This final year project discusses about permanent magnet type of generator which uses permanent magnet neodymium (NdFeB). It has a lot of advantages as it does not need an initial excitation unlike another synchronous generator. In addition, permanent magnet neodymium (NdFeB) 3 phase generator has an ability to produce power, voltage and current which is greater than the iron(Fe). It uses 8 neodymium magnets in purpose to getting 50 Hz of frequencies and 750 rpm of rotational speeds. The output is an alternating current which is rectified to direct current using uncontrolled 3 phase full wave rectifier so that it can be saved into the accumulator. In practice, the author assumes that it can be installed as the main generator to either wind power plant or water power plant inasmuch as it can be coupled with the windmill or water turbine in a low rotational speed since the axial flux machinary has a compact and high density considering as its advantages . The air gap variation effects the maximum flux that can be produced within the rotor and stator design. The maximum flux rate influences the induced voltage controlling the rotational speed of rotor. In other words, the air gap distances most likely impress the rotational speed of rotor of generator. Therefore, the greater distance of the air gap, the smaller of induced voltage of generator for the same rotational speed. The author suggests to make an automatisation of the air gap distances so that the output voltage of generator can be constant.
