 --A citizens group, The Committee for Progress, announced today its intention to enter the debate over the future of East Baton Rouge Parish public schools The announcement !as made by Tim "ohnson, the committee#s spo$esperson %The Committee for Progress !ill be actively involved in promoting efforts to bring fundamental change to our local public education system, particularly !or$ing to insure greater control of education at the school and neighborhood levels,& "ohnson e'plained %(hile !e do not support the effort to incorporate a ne! city, !e are very supportive of those !ho are aggressively !or$ing to recreate a community school system based on local control by parents, principals and neighborhoods,& "ohnson said "ohnson cited the recent announcement by BRAC )Baton Rouge Area Chamber* as an ongoing effort directed at achieving better educational outcomes by providing parents, principals and neighborhoods greater authority in educational decisions %BRAC#s efforts offer a great deal of promise,& "ohnson continued, %and !e !ill be  !atching and commenting on these efforts as !ell as other proposals made by various other concerned officials& %The Committee for Progress !ill be actively engaged in recruiting citizens !ho strongly feel the EBR educational system must undergo fundamental and transformational change so students have the very best of educational opportunities to meet the demands and challenges of the +st century as !ell as providing ta'paying citizens the ability to influence and impact the direction of their community and neighborhood schools through local control,& "ohnson said "ohnson e'plained The Committee for Progress !ill be actively engaged in fund raising, advertising and recruitment of li$e-minded citizens through social media portals %(e !ill be aggressive, direct, hopefully, and insightful in our approach, because  !e are $eenly a!are that our children#s future is at sta$e,& "ohnson commented
