Any Stamp Bookmark

As far as little presents go, bookmarks seem to fly out of my house on

a fairly continuous basis. I never seem to be able to keep enough
around to stick into my own books!

You can adapt just about ANY stamp to make pretty bookmarks, no
matter what style or size your stamp is. When I laid eyes on “Frederick
the Literate,” I just knew I had to make some bookmarks with him!

Tassel (Michaels)
Grungeboard Letters, Mixed Minis (Advantus, Corp.)
Scalloped Scissors (Provocraft)

Instructions:

1. Using Cocoa ink, stamp Frederick on the inside of the Halcraft

top folding card and let dry. Don’t color this image!

2. With black ink, stamp again onto white card stock and once
again on vellum card stock. Heat set your vellum and cut out the
lower right corner of the stamped image with scalloped scissors.

3. Adhere vellum piece over stamped image on card with tape on

the lower right corner. This is a pocket where your bookmark will
sit in for presentation and mailing.

4. Cut out a 5 by 2 inch piece of your stamped image from the

white card stock showing Frederick, some partial books and the
shelf.

5. Color this image with Copic markers blending well for book
shadows and cat markings.
6. Cut a mat from black (5.5 by 2.5”) and use a postage edge
punch on all sides. Mount the colored image onto this and add a
large black brad on one short side to insert tassel.

7. Wedge the bookmark into the prepared card sliding it into the
vellum pocket and align the pattern.

For Happy Day Card:

1. Select the Grungeboard letters to spell “Happy Day” and paint

with with crackle paint. Set aside to dry.

2. Using black ink, stamp Frederick again on vintage cream card

stock and color just a few elements.

3. Adhere the Grungeboard letters “Happy Day” on top of the

image.

4. Cut black cardstock to size 6.5” by 5” and trim around the

outside with a postage stamp edge punch.

5. Adhere the black layer onto the front of a folded Halcraft card
and attach the card front on top.
Designer’s Tip: When coloring parts of a complex stamp like this, color
only the items that are important for the recipient. With this stamp, for
instance, you could color just the cat for the cat lover. Color only the
books for the avid reader. I colored the “fish” because this bookmark
is a present for a fish enthusiast. 

I hope you will give your large stamps another look now. See if you
can use certain parts of them to make pretty bookmarks. Then, use
the entire stamp for your card to make a nice holder and presentation
for your gift!
