periods.He

rose
to
prominence
as
a
result
of
his1977
book,
The
Samurai:
A
Military
History.
Sincethenhe
hasachieved
an
equal
famein
writing
about
European
military
subjects
andhashad
over30books
published.Hehasalways
triedto
concentrate
on
the
less
familiar
areas
of
military
history,
in
particular
such
topics
asKorea,EasternEurope,
the
Balticstates
and
the
TeutonicKnights.
RICHARDHOOK
wasborn
in
1938
and
trained
at
ReigateCollege
of
Art.
After
nationalservice
with
1
st
Bn,
Queen's
Royal
Regiment,
hebecame
arteditor
of
the
much-praised
magazine
FindingOut
during
the
1960s.
He
has
worked
as
a
freelance
illustrator
ever
since,
earning
an
internationalreputation,particularly
for
hisdeepknowledge
of
Native
Americanmaterialculture;
andhas
illustratedmorethan50
Osprey
titles.
