SEMINAR REPORT MECHATRONICS
MECHATRONICS1. ABSTRACT
Mechatronics (or Mechanical and Electronics Engineering) is thecombination of mechanical engineering, electronic engineeringand computer engineering. The purpose of this interdisciplinary engineering field is the study of automatafrom an engineering perspective and serves the purposes of controlling advancedhybrid systems. The word itself is a portmanteauof  'Mechanics' and 'Electronics'.

2. INTRODUCTION
Engineering cyberneticsdeals with the question of controlengineering  of mechatronic systems. It is used to control or regulate such a system (seecontrol theory). Through collaboration the mechatronic modules perform the production goals and inherit flexible and agile manufacturing properties inthe production scheme. Modern production equipment consists of mechatronic modules that are integrated according to acontrol architecture. The most known architectures involvehierarchy, polyarchy, hetaerachy (often misspelled asheterarchy) and hybrid. The methods for achieving a technical effect are described by controlalgorithms, which mayor may not utilizeformal methodsin their design. Hybrid-systems importantto Mechatronics include production systems, synergy drives, planetary  exploration rovers, automotive subsystems such asanti-lock braking  systems, spin-assist and every day equipment such as autofocus cameras, video, hard disks, CD-players.

3. HISTORY
Aerial Venn diagram fromRPI's website describes the various fieldsthat make up MechatronicsMechatronics is centred onmechanics, electronics, control  engineering, computing, molecular engineering(fromnanochemistryand  biology) which, combined, make possible the generation of simpler, moreeconomical, reliable and versatile systems. The portmanteau "Mechatronics"was first coined by Mr. Tetsuro Mori, a senior engineer of theJapanese companyYaskawa, in 1969. Mechatronics may alternatively be referred toas "electromechanical systems" or less often as "control and automation engineering".
