State Representative Alma Adams leads all candidates in the special election Democratic Primary to fill North Carolinas 12th Congressional District seat vacated by Mel Watt. Of the seven candidates in the Democratic Primary, only Adams and Malcolm Graham receive more than 10% of the vote. Adams leads Malcolm Graham by +7 percentage points overall.
Among certain primary voters, Adams lead increases to +9 percentage points, indicating her broad base in a crowded primary. Adams began the year with the resources to hold her lead. As of December 31, 2013, Alma Adams held a $70,000 cash-on-hand advantage over Malcolm Graham in the race to succeed Mel Watt.
This memo is based on a survey of 500 registered voters who are likely to vote in the May 2014 Democratic th Primary election in North Carolinas 12 Congressional District. Hamilton Campaigns conducted telephone interviewing February 28 March 4, 2014. The margin of error for a sample of this size is 4.4 percentage points, at the 95% confidence level.
