Commentary
Curiouslyasignificantnumberofcardinalsaretheproductofmanychildrenfamilies.Such considerationsreinforceargumentsregardingthelackofabilityoftheCatholicChurchto assessthenumericalevidenceregardingtheeverincreasingworldpopulationandtheever diminishingavailabilityofresources:land,food,energy,etc.(Begetting:challengesand responsibilitiesofoverpopulation,2007).Putbluntly,itwouldappearthatthereisan institutionalizedinabilitytocount(InstitutionalizedShunningofOverpopulation:challenge incommunicabilityoffundamentallyinconvenienttruth,2008). Withregardtotheothernaturalsciences,theevidentlackofformaltrainingishoweverrelevant totheseparateargumentregardingthevalueofnewinsightsfromchemistryandphysics intorelationships(Bondingwithan"other"articulatedthroughthelanguageofmolecular bonding,2012),especiallyregardingthenatureofthatbond(Subtlerinsightsintothe "chemistry"ofthemarriagebond,2012IonicmarriageversusCovalentmarriage?,2012). Asseparatelyargued,thefundamentalinsightsofthenaturalsciencesintorelationshipsand orderofeveryformsuggestthatmanytheologicalpreoccupationscouldbefruitfullyinformed bythoselanguagesthroughtheneglecteddisciplineofmathematicaltheology(Mathematical Theology:futurescienceofconfidenceinbelief,2011).Thismightfruitfullyenable interdisciplinary,interculturalandinterfaithinitiativesforthefuture. Therearesurprisinglyunexploredcorrespondencesbetweenmathematicsandtheology,as suggestedbythelanguageusedintheirframingoftheirmostfundamentalinsightsregarding higherdegreesoforder:transfinite,transcendental,infinite,aleph,andthelike(Theoriesof Correspondencesandpotentialequivalencesbetweenthemincorrelativethinking,2007). Theissueishow,throughtheircomplementarity,collectiveinsightcanbeusedtoelicitmore integrativeapproaches,ofrequisitecredibility,tothestrategicchallengesofgovernanceinthis period.Absent,asyet,isafruitfulmappingofthearrayofdisciplinesandtheirrelationshipto thearrayofmathematicalinsights. Itishoweververyimprobablethatappreciationoftheperspectivesofawidervarietyof disciplineswillbeconsideredofanyrelevanceinthePapalConclave(Cardinalsseekidentikit fornewpope,Reuters,17February2013)
